This role supports the first line of defense against fraudulent and unusual financial activity across accounts, cards, and payment services.
You’ll review alerts, investigate cases, analyze transaction patterns, and make informed decisions to detect and mitigate fraud risk.
The position combines investigative analysis, customer interaction, operational execution, and detailed case documentation.
You’ll work across multiple monitoring populations, products, systems, and fraud typologies while maintaining strict quality and compliance standards.
The role offers an opportunity to build practical expertise in fraud operations, payments, banking, and financial crime risk management.
Success requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, organization, and the ability to meet time-sensitive service-level requirements.
It is well suited to an early-career professional who wants to develop a career in fraud prevention, investigations, and financial risk management.
- Review and triage fraud alerts and monitoring reports across multiple populations, including ACH activity, card authorizations, potential fraud, multiple-address/phone/SSN indicators, prohibited-country activity, and closed-account reviews.
- Establish expected account and product activity profiles, compare them with observed behavior, and identify patterns associated with known fraud typologies.
- Determine and document appropriate triage outcomes, including resolving alerts, consolidating activity into existing cases, taking immediate card action, or advancing matters to full investigation.
- Conduct end-to-end fraud investigations by gathering and analyzing account, transaction, device, and relationship information across multiple systems.
- Build cases, collect supporting evidence, document investigative narratives, quantify potential exposure, and reach well-supported case dispositions.
- Prepare and refer potentially SAR- or CTR-eligible activity and supporting documentation to the appropriate BSA/AML Operations team for filing consideration and completion.
- Execute card actions such as blocking, unblocking, closing, or reissuing managed cards, and submit required action requests for sponsored cards while maintaining complete documentation.
- Record reviews, analysis, decisions, and dispositions accurately and promptly in Actimize and applicable tracking tools to standards suitable for regulatory, audit, and quality-assurance review.
- Escalate matters requiring immediate attention, including potential terrorist financing, human trafficking, SAR-eligible activity, or imminent-loss situations, within established timelines.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls related to fraud monitoring, card status, and cardholder verification, completing required after-call documentation.
- Maintain required service levels, productivity, quality, and compliance standards across assigned workstreams.
- Perform additional duties and contribute to fraud-risk operations as business needs evolve.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Typically less than two years of relevant professional experience, with exposure to fraud, payments, banking operations, or customer service.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing transactions, identifying anomalies, and documenting investigative findings.
- Ability to manage a daily workload effectively and consistently meet same-day deadlines and service-level agreements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for communicating investigative findings, handling customer interactions, and documenting cases.
- Self-directed and well organized, with the ability to work confidently across multiple systems, reports, and investigative workflows.
- Foundational understanding of fraud indicators and common typologies such as account takeover, first-party fraud, and card-not-present fraud is preferred.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when determining whether activity should be resolved, investigated further, escalated, or referred for specialized review.
- Comfortable working in a structured, compliance-focused environment where accuracy, documentation, and timely escalation are essential.
- Willingness to learn fraud monitoring systems, investigative processes, payment products, and financial crime risk-management practices.
- Hourly compensation ranging from $17.25 to $28.00, depending on experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
- Eligibility for an annual performance-based incentive opportunity.
- Health insurance for eligible employees.
- 401(k) retirement benefits.
- Life insurance coverage.
- Disability benefits.
- Paid time off.
- Remote work arrangement.
- Opportunity to develop hands-on experience in fraud detection, investigations, payments, banking operations, and financial risk management.
- Inclusive workplace committed to equal employment opportunities and diverse perspectives.
