The Apprentice, Sheet Metal position is designed to provide hands-on training and practical experience in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of sheet metal products used in construction projects. This role is essential for developing the technical skills and knowledge required to become a proficient sheet metal worker, contributing to the successful completion of various construction assignments. Apprentices will work under the guidance of experienced journeymen to learn how to read blueprints, operate specialized tools, and adhere to safety standards. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a skilled tradesperson capable of producing high-quality sheet metal work that meets industry specifications and client expectations. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic math skills and the ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures and guidelines.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience or coursework related to construction, metalworking, or a related trade.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools used in sheet metal work.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Enrollment or interest in a formal apprenticeship or trade school program.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling sheet metal components according to project specifications.
- Support the installation of ductwork, roofing, siding, and other sheet metal systems on construction sites.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision to fabricate and install sheet metal products.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete tasks within project timelines and quality standards.
- Participate in training sessions and on-the-job learning opportunities to develop trade skills and knowledge.
Skills:
The required skills such as basic math, blueprint reading, and physical stamina are essential for accurately measuring, cutting, and installing sheet metal components on construction sites. Apprentices use these skills daily to interpret technical drawings and ensure that their work aligns with project specifications. Preferred skills like familiarity with tools and mechanical aptitude enhance efficiency and precision in fabricating and assembling sheet metal products. Monday-Friday with availability for nights and weekends as needed.
