Job Description

Senior Director, Accounting

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Director, Accounting in United States.

This is a senior finance leadership role responsible for building and scaling the operational accounting function at a pivotal stage of growth and preparation for IPO. You will lead the systems, processes, and teams that power the company’s financial integrity, including the general ledger, close process, and all sub-ledgers across AP, AR, and payroll. Working closely with the Chief Accounting Officer, you will play a critical role in designing an audit-ready, scalable accounting infrastructure from the ground up. This includes leading a major ERP transformation, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring operational readiness for the first external audit. The environment is fast-moving, highly technical, and deeply collaborative, requiring strong leadership and the ability to operate in ambiguity. This is a rare opportunity to shape a modern, AI-enabled accounting function at scale.

Accountabilities:

You will own the operational accounting function end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and audit readiness across all financial systems and processes. You will lead a growing team while building the infrastructure required for IPO readiness and long-term financial maturity.

  • Lead all operational accounting activities, including monthly and quarterly close, general ledger integrity, and sub-ledger management (AP, AR, payroll)
  • Design and execute the ERP migration strategy in partnership with senior finance leadership, ensuring a seamless transition to a scalable platform
  • Build, lead, and develop the operational accounting team, including managers and future hires across core accounting functions
  • Establish and maintain accounting systems that support technical accounting requirements in collaboration with technical accounting leadership
  • Drive readiness for the first external audit, including PBC preparation, documentation, and system-level financial integrity
  • Design and implement a foundational SOX control environment aligned with IPO readiness
  • Partner closely with cross-functional finance and technical teams to ensure operational alignment and compliance
  • Continuously improve accounting processes and systems, embedding automation and AI-enabled workflows where possible
  • Scale the function over time, expanding scope to support broader financial and organizational needs
Requirements:

You bring deep accounting leadership experience in high-growth environments, with a strong track record of building operational accounting functions, leading audits, and driving large-scale system transformations. You are both strategic and hands-on, with the ability to operate at the system level while leading teams through complexity and change.

  • 12+ years of accounting experience, including 6+ years in senior leadership roles within high-growth organizations
  • Proven experience leading a company through its first external audit in a pre-IPO or recently public environment
  • Strong background in leading ERP implementations or migrations at scale
  • Experience designing and scaling operational accounting functions, not only managing existing structures
  • Deep operational understanding of ASC 606, 718, and 842 and their system-level implications
  • Experience building SOX control environments from the ground up
  • Demonstrated success managing managers and developing senior finance leaders
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Experience embedding AI or automation into accounting operations is highly valued
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with senior leadership responsibilities
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • Unlimited paid time off and flexible work arrangements
  • Mental health support and annual wellness stipend
  • 401(k) plan with company match and tax savings programs
  • Learning and development stipend, including access to conferences and training
  • Home office setup support and productivity stipends
  • Life, disability, and income protection insurance
  • Collaborative, high-impact environment focused on IPO readiness and innovation
