Computer Programmer in Murray, Utah at Security National Mortgage Company

The Computer Programmer is responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications that support the company’s business operations. This role works closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and other IT team members to translate requirements into reliable, secure, and efficient software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and document software applications and scripts in accordance with company standards.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications by troubleshooting issues, identifying root causes, and implementing fixes or improvements.
• Collaborate with business analysts and end users to understand functional requirements and convert them into technical specifications.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-structured code following industry best practices, version control procedures, and internal coding standards.
• Perform code reviews and participate in peer reviews to ensure quality, security, and maintainability of software.
• Develop and execute unit tests; support integration, system, and user acceptance testing.
• Assist in database design, queries, stored procedures, and data integrations as needed.
• Document technical designs, configurations, procedures, and user guides to support ongoing maintenance and training.
• Monitor application performance and support production environments, including troubleshooting and resolving incidents within agreed service levels.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to software development and recommend improvements where appropriate.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures relating to security, privacy, and data protection, and support compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically 2+ years of experience in software development or programming (entry-level roles may accept internship or academic project experience).

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar, depending on company stack).
• Experience with web, desktop, or backend application development frameworks as appropriate (e.g., .NET, Spring, Node.js, etc.).
• Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and basic SQL.
• Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git).
• Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall).
• Basic understanding of secure coding practices and software testing principles.

Competencies:

• Working knowledge of C# or Java (position will primarily involve C# development)
• At least 1 year of experience in Web, Console, or Windows Forms development
• Basic SQL skills — writing queries and designing tables
• Experience with SSRS, Power BI, or other reporting tools a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Nice to Have:

• Accounting experience
• Source control experience (Git, Azure DevOps, etc.)
• ORM experience (Entity Framework, Dapper, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
• Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods at a desk, while working on a computer

• Hours: 8 AM–5 PM, Monday–Friday, with flexibility
• Location: Murray, Utah — remote/hybrid option available
