POSITION TYPE: Full Time/Full Year (12-Months)

SALARY GRADE: 29

HOURLY PAY RANGE: $25.48 to $27.44

LOCATION: Pico Rivera, CA

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves over 650 children and their families.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Maintenance Supervisor provides general direction and supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect, repair, fabricate, install, service, and maintain equipment and buildings.

• Track and complete all work orders generated by staff or through site monitoring within timelines required for compliance with federal, state, local and grantee timelines.

• Assess and analyze repair needs and determine the appropriate course for completion.

• Completes repair work and/or minor renovations, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical facility needs to ensure safe environments for children and staff.

• Performs a variety of carpentry duties: construct, fabricate, install, repair, or replace doors, walls, signs, desks, counters, shelves, shelf units, computer tables, cabinets, chairs, benches, tables, and stairways.

• Performs a variety of painting duties, prepare, and finish various surfaces for painting, glaze windows, paint walls, doors, rooms, buildings, and other surfaces as requested and/or required.

• Perform a variety of electrical duties; install, adjust, repair, or replace intercoms, public address systems, emergency lighting systems, clock systems, two-way radios, telephones, electronic motors, and ballasts.

• Install electrical wiring, fixtures, conduit, switches and breakers and electrical timing systems.

• Perform a variety of heating and cooling systems maintenance duties, inspect, maintain, and service air conditioning and heating units, clean and change filters, cooling coils and blower wheels and compartments, change motors, replace bearings and other work parts, check wiring, belts, bearings, alignment, amperage, and voltage and make necessary repairs, replacements, or adjustments.

• Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors, desks, vehicles, lockers, and safes; duplicate keys; change lock combinations.

• Recommend and implement appropriate methods and procedures to ensure security.

• Perform general facility maintenance including plumbing repairs, pipe cutting/threading, fixture and water heater installation, drain cleaning, and unclogging sinks/toilets.

• Inspect, maintain, and repair roofs, gutters, downspouts, vent caps, fan screens, and minor roof leaks.

• Respond to emergency maintenance calls, complete assigned work orders, and assess repair or outsourcing needs.

• Maintain building appearance and cleanliness including lighting replacement, trash removal, supply restocking, graffiti removal, and reporting hazardous conditions.

• Maintain landscaping and irrigation systems including trimming, weed removal, sprinkler checks, and minor repairs.

• Operate maintenance equipment and power tools include pressure washers, lawn equipment, trimmers, chainsaws, and blowers.

• Assist with furniture/equipment moving, room setup, and other facility support duties as assigned.

• Operate and maintain company vehicles including inspections, fueling, and cleaning.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of:

Common repair and maintenance practices and procedures to ensure environments are safe and secure for staff and children. Operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools.

Ability to:

Monitor learning environments to ensure a pro-active approach to maintenance and perform preventative monitoring, accurate tracking of work orders; promote a healthy and clean environment for staff, parents, and children, ability to learn state and federal requirements and standards regarding licensed childcare facilities, demonstrate respect for individuals and groups with varied cultural, racial ethnic, religious, and linguistic identities and backgrounds, observe vehicle codes and follow defensive driving practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of specific vocational training in trades relation to the position assignment.

Experience:

Three years of experience performing a variety of journey-level skilled trades involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, painting, and related general maintenance, custodial and grounds maintenance duties.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

• Successful completion of an initial health examination, performed by or under the supervision of a physician, to determine, at a minimum, of the prospective employee can perform requirements of the job description physical requirements.

• Proof of the absence of Tuberculosis, from a physician to that the prospective employee is cleared to work with children and families.

• Documentation of current immunizations against Influenza, Measles (MMR) and Pertussis (TDAP).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Fingerprint clearances from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Child Abuse Index prior to starting employment.

• Completed and signed statement of any pending and/or prior criminal arrests/charges/convictions related to child sexual abuse, child abuse and neglect, and/or violent felonies.

• Verification that determines eligibility for employment in the United States of America.

• A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation to perform position duties is required.

• As a mandated reporter of child abuse, must immediately report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Child Protective Services.

• Bi-lingual in a language reflective of the population served is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met, or are encountered, by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, including climbing ladders and performing overhead work. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. The employee must be able to carry items over distances of up to 100 feet using one or two hands. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

6. Not solicit or accept personal gratuities, favors or anything of significant monetary value form contractors or potential contractors.

7. Maintain respect and promote professional relationships with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), families, staff and children.

8. Refrain from the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of alcoholic beverage, controlled substance, and tobacco products in the workplace or at any activity funded by federal or state funds.

9. Maintain adherence to LACOE, state, or federal mandates, including but not limited to program eligibility determination regulations for Early Head Start, Head Start or state preschool services.

10. Enrolling pregnant women and children that are not eligible to receive Early Head Start or Head Start services.
