Job Description

Resident Camp Director
Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson
Are you an experienced camp professional who knows what it takes to run a successful camp, lead a team, and deliver engaging programs for young people? Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson is looking for a hands-on leader who can bring those skills together in one year-round role.
You'll develop and deliver Girl Scout programs throughout the year, from outdoor adventures and leadership activities to special events. During the summer, you'll take the lead in operating our resident camp, overseeing staff, daily programming, camper safety, and the details that make camp run well. We're looking for someone who can plan, problem-solve, make sound decisions, and take ownership of both programs and operations.
What You'll Do
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging Girl Scout programs, outdoor experiences, leadership activities, and special events.
• Plan program schedules, budgets, supplies, and logistics to ensure programs are well organized and successfully delivered.
• Lead the daily operations of a resident camp during the summer, including camper experience, staff supervision, schedules, and programming.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal camp staff.
• Oversee camper safety, risk management, emergency procedures, and staff accountability.
• Ensure camp operations meet applicable ACA standards, New York State Department of Health requirements, and organizational policies.
• Manage camp budgets, supplies, facilities coordination, and operational logistics.
• Work with families, volunteers, community partners, and colleagues to support successful programs and camp operations.
Required Qualifications
• At least three years of professional experience in a camp setting, including hands-on involvement in camp operations, program delivery, or seasonal staff leadership.
• Experience supervising, training, or leading staff, with the ability to provide direction, address challenges, and make sound decisions.
• Understanding of camper supervision, safety practices, risk management, and the demands of seasonal camp operations.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt to changing needs.
• Commitment to youth development, outdoor experiences, and inclusive programming.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to camp and program locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in resident or overnight camp operations.
• Previous experience as a camp director, assistant camp director, program director, or in a comparable camp leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor education, youth development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Familiarity with ACA accreditation standards and New York State children's camp regulations.
Compensation & Housing
• Annual salary: $55,000–$57,000.
• Housing: A one-bedroom house is available at a substantially reduced rental rate for nine months of the year.
• Summer housing: Rent is waived during the three-month summer camp season. On-site living is required during this period.
• Utilities: Included, except internet and telephone.
Why Join Us?
Help create meaningful experiences that build girls' confidence, leadership, and connection to the outdoors. This role offers the opportunity to shape programs throughout the year while taking the lead in a major seasonal camp operation.
If you have hands-on camp operations experience, know how to lead staff, and enjoy developing and delivering programs, we'd love to hear from you.
