As a Senior ICT Technician, you will take ownership of internal IT operations for a fully remote, globally distributed organization dedicated to open-source technology and smart home innovation. You will ensure employees have secure, reliable devices, accounts, and tools while maintaining the stability and security of the organization's server infrastructure. As the primary IT specialist, you will have significant autonomy to shape IT processes, implement automation, and establish effective security practices. Working closely with cloud engineering and leadership, you will manage everything from identity and access control to Linux administration and incident response. Your work will directly support employee productivity, data protection, and operational resilience across a diverse international team. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a privacy-focused environment that values sustainability, open-source collaboration, and employee well-being.
Manage End-User IT Support: Set up, configure, and maintain employee computers while troubleshooting daily IT issues across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments. Ensure devices comply with internal security policies and provide accessible technical support to colleagues worldwide.
Own Identity and Access Management: Administer Google Workspace, single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and password management systems. Ensure employees receive appropriate access when joining and that permissions are promptly revoked when they leave.
Maintain Internal IT Systems: Manage employee-facing applications, software, and internal services to ensure availability, reliability, and secure operation.
Support Server Infrastructure: Collaborate with the cloud engineering team to maintain and secure server environments, perform Linux system administration, configure firewalls, and support infrastructure reliability.
Automate IT Operations: Develop and maintain automation for device provisioning, system configuration, patch management, and employee onboarding and offboarding using Ansible and scripting tools.
Manage SaaS Tools and Vendors: Oversee the configuration, licensing, renewals, and costs of internal applications, including Slack, Google Workspace, Jira, and other business tools.
Strengthen Security and Compliance: Define and maintain internal security standards, conduct access reviews, and support alignment with GDPR and relevant security frameworks.
Respond to Security Incidents: Investigate internal security incidents, coordinate remediation, and lead follow-up activities to prevent recurrence and improve security practices.
Maintain Documentation and Self-Service Resources: Document IT systems, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks in the internal handbook to help colleagues resolve common issues independently.
Continuously Improve IT Operations: Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, improve service reliability, strengthen security controls, and reduce manual work through automation and clear processes.
Relevant IT Experience: Several years of experience in IT administration, systems administration, or a similar technical support role, ideally within a remote-first or geographically distributed organization.
Automation Expertise: Hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management and infrastructure automation.
Linux Administration: Strong Linux administration skills, including server maintenance, troubleshooting, and firewall configuration.
Cross-Platform Support: Practical experience supporting users and managing devices across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments.
Identity and Access Management: Experience administering Google Workspace, SSO, MFA, and password management solutions, with a solid understanding of identity and endpoint security.
Scripting Skills: Ability to write scripts in Bash, Python, or similar languages to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
Security Awareness: Understanding of endpoint protection, access controls, secure configuration, patching, and incident response procedures.
Communication and Documentation: Strong written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and support colleagues with different levels of technical expertise.
Autonomy and Prioritization: Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, troubleshoot under pressure, and remain calm when technical or security incidents occur.
Infrastructure as Code: Familiarity with tools such as Terraform or Nomad is an advantage.
Compliance Knowledge: Working knowledge of GDPR and relevant information security frameworks is desirable.
Device Management: Experience with mobile device management (MDM) tools and endpoint configuration platforms is a plus.
Vendor and License Management: Previous experience managing SaaS providers, software subscriptions, licensing, and renewals is beneficial.
Open-Source and Smart Home Interest: Familiarity with Home Assistant or the wider open-source smart home ecosystem is an advantage.
Competitive compensation: A locally adjusted salary package designed to target approximately the 75th percentile for the role, seniority, and local market. Compensation for the Netherlands can be discussed during the initial interview.
Fully remote employment: Work from your preferred location in the Netherlands, with no fixed daily schedule, provided you maintain at least three hours of overlap with colleagues during the working day.
Full-time position: A 40-hour working week with flexibility to organize your schedule.
Generous paid leave: Five weeks, or 25 days, of paid annual leave.
Paid sick leave: Fourteen days of paid sick leave where local laws would otherwise treat this leave as unpaid.
Parental leave: Six weeks of paid and six weeks of unpaid parental leave during the first year after a child's birth, with additional support where local provisions do not provide the specified paid compensation.
Hardware budget: A dedicated budget for work equipment, which you may keep for personal use after three years.
Annual smart home budget: Funding to explore and keep up with the latest smart home technologies.
Learning and development: An annual education budget to support professional growth, technical learning, and continued skills development.
Performance bonus: An annual bonus linked to overall company performance.
Internet allowance: A 50% contribution toward your home internet connection costs.
Personal project time: One working day every two weeks dedicated to your own projects.
Open-source contribution time: If you already maintain projects related to Home Assistant, you may be able to dedicate working hours to maintaining them.
Employee-focused culture: Join an international, remote-first team that values privacy, choice, sustainability, autonomy, and employee well-being.
