Job Description

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to develop advanced embedded software solutions supporting mission-critical aerospace and defense systems. You will design, build, debug, and test real-time software that enables reliable navigation, communication, and system performance in complex environments. Working with cross-functional engineering teams, you will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to validation and integration. The position is ideal for an experienced embedded engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and working close to hardware systems. You will apply your expertise in C++, interfaces, testing, and low-level development to create resilient technologies with real-world impact. This is a high-impact opportunity to support innovative programs where software reliability and precision are essential.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance embedded software solutions using C++ for mission-critical navigation and timing systems.
  • Support back-end software development, input/output processing, system integration, and communication between embedded components.
  • Develop, debug, test, and troubleshoot embedded software in laboratory, integration, and system-level environments.
  • Analyze and validate internal interfaces to ensure reliable communication, data flow, and overall system performance.
  • Create and execute unit tests, integration tests, ad hoc tests, and formal validation procedures to verify software functionality and quality.
  • Support integration of serial and digital I/O interfaces, hardware communication layers, drivers, and embedded system components.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, hardware, and test engineering teams to resolve technical issues and achieve program milestones.
  • Document software designs, test results, defects, and technical findings according to engineering standards.
  • Support software updates, defect resolution, verification activities, and continuous improvement throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of secure and reliable embedded technologies supporting advanced positioning, navigation, and timing capabilities.
Requirements:
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience developing embedded software.
  • Strong C++ development experience, particularly with object-oriented design, back-end software, system-level development, and input/output processing.
  • Experience debugging, troubleshooting, and validating embedded software in laboratory, integration, or operational environments.
  • Experience working with hardware/software interfaces, serial communication, digital I/O, or related embedded system integrations.
  • Ability to develop and execute software testing strategies, including unit testing, integration testing, and validation procedures.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux, Qt, XAML, DDS communications, I2C, MIL-STD-1553, board support packages, device drivers, or low-level hardware integration preferred.
  • Knowledge of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing systems or assured PNT technologies preferred.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, avionics, or other mission-critical embedded environments is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation range of $57 - $86 USD per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and certifications.
  • Flexible remote work opportunity with potential hybrid or onsite collaboration as needed.
  • Opportunity to contribute to mission-critical aerospace and defense programs with meaningful real-world impact.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, life, and disability insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions.
  • Professional development support, including certification assistance and career growth opportunities.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment focused on technical excellence.
  • Opportunity to work on advanced embedded systems and next-generation technologies.
  • Potential for temporary-to-full-time conversion based on business needs, performance, and available opportunities.
