Lab Technician / Environmental Compliance Specialist

1st & 2nd Shift

Location: Maple Grove, MN

Description

AdvancedPCB is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lab Technician / Environmental Compliance Specialist to support our printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing operations in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining all chemical processes associated with PCB manufacturing, including chemical bath preparation, chemical inventory management, purchasing, and receiving activities. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, this role serves as the site's environmental compliance lead, overseeing regulatory reporting, licensing, hazardous waste management, and interactions with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemical process management, environmental compliance, and hazardous materials handling within a manufacturing environment.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Laboratory & Chemical Process

  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain chemical baths and process solutions used in PCB manufacturing operations.
  • Perform chemical analysis and testing to ensure process baths meet required specifications.
  • Monitor bath chemistry and adjust as needed to maintain product quality and process efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, testing results, and process parameters.
  • Troubleshoot chemical process issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with production teams to ensure continuous support of manufacturing operations.

Chemical Purchasing & Inventory

  • Manage the purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of all chemicals and laboratory supplies.
  • Coordinate with approved vendors to ensure timely procurement of chemicals and materials.
  • Maintain proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor chemical inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock to support production needs.
  • Review and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory documentation.

Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

  • Serve as the site's primary environmental compliance representative.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports, permits, and regulatory documentation, including:
    • Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) reports and licensing requirements.
    • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting.
    • Hennepin County Hazardous Waste Reporting.
    • Hazardous waste manifests and associated documentation.
  • Coordinate and manage site inspections conducted by:
    • Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA)
    • Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES)
    • Other local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental permits, regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain all environmental records and documentation in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.

Safety & Hazardous Materials Management

  • Serve as the site's hazardous materials and hazardous waste subject matter expert.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state regulations related to hazardous materials and waste management.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste storage, transportation, and disposal activities.
  • Conduct employee training related to chemical handling, hazardous waste management, and environmental compliance.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and spill prevention activities.
  • Support and maintain the site's Emergency Response and Hazard Communication programs.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree or Certifications in chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing laboratory, chemical processing, wastewater treatment, or environmental compliance role.
  • Experience in PCB manufacturing or a chemical manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and maintaining chemical process baths.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience purchasing and managing chemical inventories.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of chemical handling, laboratory procedures, and analytical testing methods.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regulations
    • EPCRA reporting requirements
    • Hazardous waste regulations
    • OSHA hazardous materials requirements
    • DOT hazardous materials transportation requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet regulatory deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and recordkeeping systems.

Certifications, Training Requirements or Experience

  • The ideal candidate will possess or be able to obtain:
  • Federal OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification.
  • Hazardous Materials Transportation Security Training.
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping Certification preferred.
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Training preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up-to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and chemical-resistant gear.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals,
