This is a part-time, fully remote accounting opportunity supporting a diverse portfolio of nonprofit organizations.
You’ll manage monthly accounting activities, strengthen financial accuracy, and help clients better understand their financial information.
The role combines hands-on accounting with client guidance, training, and ongoing process improvement.
You’ll prepare clear financial reports for organizational leaders, boards, and other stakeholders.
Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, sound accounting judgment, and a collaborative approach to client relationships.

- Perform monthly accounting activities, including bank and credit card reconciliations and review of balance sheet accounts against supporting schedules.
- Review and adjust accounts such as prepaid expenses, vacation time, and fixed assets to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Allocate shared costs across program, administration, and fundraising functions for nonprofit statements of functional expenses.
- Track grant-related expenses and adjust temporarily restricted net asset balances as appropriate.
- Review transaction details, identify coding changes, and use accounting reviews as opportunities to educate and train clients.
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for staff, boards, and other stakeholders.
- Compare and validate client records against Form 990 filings and audited financial statements.
- Respond promptly to client questions and determine the most effective communication method for each situation.
- Train clients on QuickBooks Online and nonprofit bookkeeping best practices.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to client and internal accounting processes and systems.
- Provide vacation coverage for colleagues when needed and respond promptly to questions and requests from supervisors and team members.
- Maintain accurate daily records of hours worked and complete other accounting or operational duties as assigned.
- Experience with monthly close and recurring accounting processes, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and financial statement analysis.
- Basic knowledge of GAAP is required; familiarity with nonprofit GAAP is preferred.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, particularly QuickBooks Online, Excel, cloud-based tools, and Google Drive applications.
- Experience working with fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and other supporting schedules.
- Prior accounting experience within a small or mid-sized nonprofit organization is preferred.
- Experience teaching QuickBooks or bookkeeping practices to non-accountants is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce accurate, high-quality financial reports.
- Excellent judgment and the confidence to identify issues while knowing when to seek additional guidance.
- Patient, flexible, and supportive communication style when working with clients and colleagues with varying levels of accounting knowledge.
- Professional, cooperative, and balanced approach to work.
- Ability to work independently from a home office and communicate effectively by phone and email.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods; local travel capability is preferred.

- $34–$35 per hour, with the position listed at $35 per hour.
- Part-time schedule of approximately 10–30 hours per week.
