Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant II (MA II) performs all MA I duties and provides advanced clinical support, mentoring, workflow coordination, quality improvement, and regulatory support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Core Duties and Responsibilities

The MA II maintains competency in all MA I responsibilities, including:

  • Prepare exam rooms and support efficient patient flow.
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, document histories and chief complaints, and prepare patients for visits.
  • Perform EKGs, audiometry, immunizations, blood draws, specimen collection, and basic in-clinic testing as applicable.
  • Assist RNs, NPs, PAs, and MDs with examinations, follow-up, referrals, and patient education as directed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, supplies, equipment, and required clinical logs.
  • Maintain clean, organized clinical areas and support clinic operations as needed.

2. Additional MA II Roles and Expectations
The following responsibilities distinguish the MA II level from the MA I role:

  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for Medical Assistants, including orientation, precepting, coaching, and competency validation.
  • Support advanced clinical workflows, including difficult blood draws and specimen collection.
  • Assist with clinic operations, patient flow, supply inventory, and equipment coordination.
  • Support clinical workflow and standard operating procedure improvements.
  • Participate in chart audits, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness, including Medi-Cal, HRSA, OSHA, infection prevention, and vaccine programs.
  • Maintain required quality-control, temperature, and regulatory logs.
  • Serve as shift lead and assist with interviews and onboarding as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and perform clinical tasks within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and under appropriate orders and supervision.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent customer service.

3. MA II Delivery Pathway/Performance Expectations

  • Works independently with minimal direction.
  • Anticipates provider and clinical team needs.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Manages time and priorities effectively.
  • Identifies barriers, proposes solutions, and seeks guidance when needed.
  • Promotes teamwork, professionalism, and excellent patient service.
Requirements:

Competencies:

  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience required.
  • Pediatric medical assisting and phlebotomy experience and comfort level strongly preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Medical Assistant registration or certification preferred.
  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) preferred, not required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to perform blood draws, EKGs, and audiometry.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and prioritize competing tasks.
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved populations.
  • Community clinic or nonprofit experience and bilingual Spanish preferred.
