Help others become stronger, healthier, and more confident at the Stroum Jewish Community Center.
We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate Group Exercise Instructors who enjoy creating welcoming, engaging, and inclusive fitness experiences for participants of all ages and abilities.
As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will lead dynamic classes that help participants improve their strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, balance, mobility, and overall wellness. You will create an environment where participants feel supported, motivated, and empowered to achieve their personal fitness goals.
We are looking for instructors who are passionate about group fitness and have experience teaching a variety of modalities, including cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, balance, flexibility, and other specialty fitness formats.
We are particularly interested in instructors available for Monday 11:00 AM–12:00 PM classes and weekday evening classes, with additional substitute opportunities available.
As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will:
- Teach safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes that incorporate cardiovascular fitness, strength training, balance, flexibility, and functional movement.
- Lead scheduled classes beginning and ending on time with appropriate warm-up, exercise progression, stretching, and cool-down.
- Provide clear instruction on proper exercise techniques, demonstrate movements, explain targeted muscle groups, and educate participants on effective workout methods.
- Offer modifications and progressions to safely accommodate participants with varying fitness levels, abilities, and physical needs.
- Create an encouraging and inclusive class environment where participants feel comfortable, motivated, and supported.
- Prepare appropriate equipment, music, and class materials as needed.
- Ensure participant safety by following established exercise guidelines, facility policies, and SJCC procedures.
- Monitor participants and provide positive coaching, encouragement, and feedback throughout class.
- Support the emotional and social well-being of participants through respectful and positive interactions.
- Build relationships with members to encourage continued participation and community engagement.
- Substitute for other instructors as needed.
- Follow all SJCC emergency procedures.
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Successful candidates will have:
- Experience teaching group exercise classes or another fitness modality.
- Ability to lead safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness classes.
- Knowledge of exercise principles, safe movement techniques, and appropriate modifications.
- Ability to coach, motivate, and empower participants.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction for participants with varying abilities, experience levels, and fitness goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with members, guests, and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a team.
- Strong judgment, professionalism, and commitment to excellent customer service.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current certification from a nationally accredited organization such as ACE, ACSM, NSCA-CPT, AFAA, or equivalent, or certification specific to the assigned fitness modality.
- Current Adult & Child CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain certification by the required deadline.
- Washington State Pay Range: $45.00–$50.00 per class/hour.

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, certifications, teaching expertise, and assigned class formats.
