Summary

Assists in the erection of metal storage tanks. Will assist the crane operator in properly rigging and/or securing materials of various shapes and sizes. May operate gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment to lift and move materials and objects as needed. May have to operate the following equipment: Skid steer, man lift, fork lift, front-end loader, etc.

Essential Functions

1. Responsible for identifying hazardous work conditions such as unstable ground, high winds and congestion of traffic and/or pedestrians.
2. Responsible for choosing the correct method and equipment (hardware) to properly lift materials during the erection process.
3. Assists Crane Operator in placing blocks and out riggers to prevent capsizing of crane when lifting heavy loads.
4. Receives and gives hand signals and/or verbal instruction to and from flagman in order to determine positioning of equipment and specific placement of materials being moved. Must utilize knowledge of hand signals and flagging techniques daily.
5. Must read and interpret load charts and make proper sling and choker selection using basic math skills including geometry to calculate the loads and to verify with the equipment.
6. Assists Operator for checking operational condition of equipment prior to use and performing regular maintenance activities such as lubrication of moving parts, checking fluid levels and insuring safe cables, chains and pulleys.
7. Assists site Superintendent or Foreman with other duties that may be assigned. May include grinding metal, cleaning site, and assisting welders with moving leads, cords or cables. May include flagging, hole watching, fire watching or various additional duties to assist in the tank building process.

Required Education and Experience:

1. NCCER, NCCCO or equivalent Rigger certification is required.
2. Minimum of Two year experience.
3. Rigging and flagging skills.
4. Must pass PALA Certification Exam.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. High School or GED preferred but not required.
2. Trade School program preferred but not required.
