POSITION SUMMARY:

The Porter I, On-Call position will either work to cover open AM and PM shifts as necessary. This position will work primarily collecting and washing cooking equipment and busing and washing plates, cups and silverware. The secondary function of the position is to complete specific tasks as assigned from the kitchen’s master cleaning list.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Successful experience working in a commercial or industrial kitchen as a member of a team
  • Training, understanding and experience with HACCP procedures
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English to facilitate communications in the kitchen

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • HACCP certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, breakdown and full cleaning of the dish machine
  • Set up of the three compartment sinks with soapy water, clean water and sanitizer water
  • Takes temperature and sanitizer level checks on the machines and sinks removes trash, cardboard, compost and recycled material from the kitchen according to kitchen procedures
  • Prepares, cleans, sanitizes and replaces all assigned equipment according to kitchen procedures
  • Keeps the dish room, pot racks and other assigned areas clean and sanitized
  • Washes kitchen floor mats. Washes kitchen towels, dries and folds the towels for storage according to kitchen procedure
  • Follows the posted master cleaning list and does side jobs as assigned
  • Sets up and cleans the lunchroom to include washing down walls, salad bar and serving equipment
  • Breaks down and cleans the lunch room after service
  • Any other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor or other kitchen or agency managers

  • Physical demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is required to stand for long periods of time and move; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee will must bend, stoop and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis. Employee will be asked to move fully loaded carts from floor to floor for storage on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will consistently vary from moderate to loud. The work environment will be ever changing with volunteers and staff members all sharing limited space and working together in the Kitchen. The work environment will consistently have wet floors, temperature extremes, moving objects and loud noises
