About the role

D-Wave is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Service Engineer to help build and support our growing fleet of quantum computing systems. In this role, you will join a collaborative team focused on maintaining system performance and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

This is a multidisciplinary, hands-on role involving mechanical, electrical, and cryogenic systems. You will be responsible for building, upgrading, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex quantum computing systems that support our Leap™ quantum cloud service. You will also work closely with R&D teams to improve system reliability, serviceability, and operational processes.

This position is based in Burnaby, BC, with occasional travel to customer and field sites. Participation in an on-call rotation supporting production systems is required. As a customer-facing role, strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential.

What you'll do

  • Participate in system builds, installations, upgrades, and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain cryogenic and electromechanical systems in lab and field environments
  • Work closely with hardware and R&D teams to improve system design, reliability, and serviceability
  • Develop and improve service procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and incident response processes
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, partners, and host facilities personnel
  • Support production systems through participation in an on-call rotation

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience supporting complex multidisciplinary electromechanical systems in lab and/or production environments
  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and electromechanical systems
  • Experience with scripting, PLC logic, or programming languages such as Python or C/C++
  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams

Bonus points

  • Experience with cryogenic and/or high-vacuum systems
  • Understanding of networking protocols, IT infrastructure, and Linux/UNIX operating systems
  • Experience with P&IDs, fluid control systems, or electromechanical control systems
  • Current or eligible registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
  • Experience providing technical support or contributing to technical product development

Additional requirements

  • Participation in an on-call rotation and willingness to work flexible hours during busy periods
  • This role requires occasional travel (approximately 10%) to customer sites across North America and Europe, including short-term work assignments in the United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, able to obtain and maintain a valid passport, and eligible to obtain any necessary U.S. work authorization for temporary business travel or assignments in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances as needed, including working on-site with highly secure and sensitive customers and completing background checks if required
