This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of strategic underwriting, market expansion, and broker relationship management within the U.S. surety landscape. You will be responsible for driving profitable portfolio growth while shaping regional strategy and strengthening the organization’s presence, particularly across the Eastern U.S. The position requires a strong entrepreneurial mindset and deep expertise in surety underwriting, combined with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams. You will actively engage with brokers, industry partners, and internal global stakeholders to deliver sustainable business growth and disciplined risk selection. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on portfolio performance, market positioning, and long-term strategic development. The environment is fast-paced, relationship-driven, and highly autonomous, requiring both commercial acumen and technical underwriting excellence.
- Lead the development and execution of a regional surety business strategy focused on expanding profitable growth across the United States, with emphasis on the Eastern region.
- Drive portfolio development by underwriting and managing a diversified surety book, ensuring alignment with risk appetite, profitability targets, and portfolio guidelines.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and distribution partners to generate new business opportunities and strengthen market presence.
- Oversee account and portfolio underwriting activities, ensuring consistent, transparent, and well-documented decision-making processes.
- Establish and grow a regional underwriting team while fostering collaboration across Americas and global surety teams.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align underwriting practices, risk assessments, and portfolio strategies across international markets.
- Actively represent the organization in industry events, broker engagements, and surety market forums to enhance visibility and business development.
- Contribute to the development of marketing plans, business strategies, and budget management for the regional surety portfolio.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in surety underwriting or a related insurance underwriting discipline with demonstrated portfolio growth responsibility.
- Proven track record of developing and managing strong broker relationships and generating profitable business.
- Strong expertise in underwriting surety risks and managing complex portfolios within a competitive market environment.
- Experience designing and executing business plans, marketing strategies, and financial objectives.
- Deep understanding of surety distribution channels and broker ecosystems, particularly at the regional level.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently and deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills across internal and external partners.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment with strong accountability for results.
- Competitive total compensation package including a base salary range of $240,000–$275,000.
