Job Description

Location: Richmond, British Columbia
Contract Position
Compensation: This contract position pays CAD $25.00/hour (approximately USD $18.25/hour equivalent, based on current exchange rates).

Evari Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Field Technician Contractor to support a streetlight conditions assessment for the City of Richmond, BC. This is an independent contractor opportunity working closely with Evari’s Operations Team and Project Managers on project-based assignments. The project is expected to begin June 3 and last approximately 9 weeks.

The GIS Field Technician Contractor is responsible for safely, accurately, and efficiently collecting field data related to public infrastructure and assets, including street lighting fixtures, signs, sidewalks, and related facilities. Contractors will use mobile GIS applications and field equipment to capture and verify high-quality spatial and asset data.

Successful contractors demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow project instructions and field manuals, maintain strong safety practices, and communicate effectively with Evari staff and project teams.

Scope of Services
  • Safely, accurately, and efficiently collect field data related to existing assets and infrastructure using mobile GIS applications such as Collector and Field Maps
  • Capture project-specific location and condition data in accordance with project requirements and data standards
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with Evari project staff regarding project progress, field conditions, and data collection activities
  • Follow Evari’s operational priorities of:
    1. Safety
    2. Data Quality and Accuracy
    3. Efficiency and Effectiveness
  • Practice all applicable field safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Operate vehicles safely and responsibly while traveling between field locations
  • Comply with applicable Evari and client safety requirements for assigned projects
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency through careful field observation and data verification
  • Properly care for and use project equipment including tablets, GPS units, measuring devices, range-finders, and related tools
  • Maintain regular communication with project leads, technicians, and Evari staff
  • Track work hours and project progress using designated project management and time tracking systems
  • Interact professionally and courteously with members of the public while representing Evari Consulting
  • Utilize Google Workspace applications, GIS software, and communication tools to coordinate field activities and deliverables
Compensation and Reimbursement
  • Contractors will be compensated at a rate of CAD $25.00/hour (approximately USD $18.25/hour equivalent, based on current exchange rates)
  • Evari Consulting will reimburse approved project-related expenses
  • Evari Consulting will reimburse approved mileage expenses incurred from the designated daily project starting point in accordance with project requirements and agreed reimbursement procedures
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • Basic understanding of GIS concepts, or demonstrated ability and willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions from field manuals and project documentation
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in the field
Preferred Characteristics
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • Enthusiastic about GIS and field data collection
  • Adaptable and willing to expand into new technical areas as projects evolve
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace applications including Gmail, Calendar, and Drive
Contractor Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and active automobile insurance
  • Reliable transportation to and from field locations
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, including driving and walking for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to provide services as an independent contractor in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Travel and Work Location

This position supports projects within the contractor’s local service area, primarily in Richmond. Contractors are responsible for their own housing, transportation, and daily commute to the designated project starting location each day.

Contract Terms

This is an independent contractor opportunity and does not constitute an offer of employment. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses unless otherwise specified in a written agreement with Evari Consulting.
