The position combines scientific leadership, client partnership, and project oversight across a wide range of medical communication activities. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring scientific staff and guiding complex content development projects from strategy through execution. This role is ideal for an experienced scientific communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused environment and values flexibility, autonomy, and scientific excellence. The position can be performed remotely within the United States or from a hybrid office environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the planning, development, and scientific oversight of medical communication programs across Rare Disease and other therapeutic areas.
  • Provide strategic scientific guidance to support client objectives, brand goals, and evidence-based communication initiatives.
  • Oversee the creation and review of a variety of medical education materials, including advisory boards, speaker programs, slide decks, and scientific publications.
  • Ensure all content maintains scientific accuracy, clinical relevance, regulatory compliance, and adherence to editorial standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with internal scientific teams, medical writers, freelancers, and cross-functional stakeholders to manage content development workflows efficiently.
  • Supervise and mentor Associate Scientific Directors and other scientific staff, supporting professional growth and quality excellence.
  • Conduct scientific research, data interpretation, reference validation, and quality control activities to support high-standard deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication, strategic recommendations, and responsive project leadership.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations are consistently achieved.
Requirements:
  • Advanced scientific degree required (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience within medical communications, medical education, or related scientific communications environments.
  • Strong experience developing promotional medical education content such as advisory boards, speaker programs, scientific slide decks, and educational materials.
  • Expertise in interpreting and communicating complex scientific and clinical data to a variety of healthcare audiences.
  • Experience working within Rare Disease and/or Nephrology therapeutic areas strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical editorial standards, including AMA style and industry ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, project management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in fast-paced environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and client management abilities.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising scientific teams is considered a strong advantage.
  • Comfortable working in remote or distributed team environments with a collaborative mindset.
