Registered Nurse – Hickory Behavioral Health
Department: Nursing
Direct Report To: Director of Nursing
Shift: 1st Shift 7am - 7:30pm
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the treatment team that uses the nursing process with individual patients and groups to help them meet their psychological, safety, and general health needs according to the Nurse Practice Act and will assist in oversight of LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurse) , MHTs (Mental Health Technician), and Unit Clerks.
Under immediate supervision of the CNO (Chief Nursing Officer), the Registered Nurse will be responsible for completing assessments, care plan management, patient education, medication administration and education, and documentation.

Job Qualifications:
- Valid RN licensure completed from an accredited school of Nursing.
- At least 2 years prior experience as an RN preferably with hospital and behavioral health experience
- Certified BLS provider obtained within 1 month prior to hire.
- Ability to maintain strict adolescent confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.

- Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills
- Computer literacy and ability to use an EMR.
- Knowledge of “best practices” behavioral medicine treatment delivery and methodologies
- Sound clinical judgment and decision-making skills
Clinical & Patient Care
- Performs Nursing Assessment on admission
- Evaluates patients on an ongoing basis to ensure medical needs are met
- Asses, responds to, and documents suicide risks
- Performs intake assessment
- Performs pain assessments and demonstrates knowledge of pain management
- Documents adolescent education
Medication Administration & Monitoring
- Utilizes “Read Back” when taking verbal orders
- Conducts narcotics count and maintains emergency drug kit
- Understands administration of high-risk medications
- Uses two identifiers when administering medications
- Documents medication administration
- Receives medications from pharmacy and stores appropriately
- Reports medication errors or “near misses” to Director of Nursing
Testing & Clinical Procedures
- Performs point-of-care urinalysis and pregnancy screens
- Administers two-step Tuberculin PPD test
- Performs glucose monitoring
- Performs COVID-19 testing
Documentation, Compliance, & Procedures
- Follows admission and discharge procedures
- Participates in performance improvement activities
- Maintains current nursing license
Safety & Infection Control
- Performs appropriate hand hygiene throughout the shift
- Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately
- Follows workplace injury procedures
- Reports safety hazards to supervisor or Executive Director
Compensation:
$35 - $41 hourly
