Job Description

Senior Data Scientist

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Data Scientist in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning, statistical modeling, and mission-critical defense analytics, supporting high-impact decision-making within a secure federal environment. You will lead the full lifecycle of data science solutions deployed across DoD data fabrics, from problem framing and model development to deployment, monitoring, and governance. The position places strong emphasis on causal inference, Bayesian methods, and responsible AI practices, ensuring models are both technically robust and ethically sound. You will collaborate closely with engineering, cybersecurity, and cloud teams to build scalable, compliant analytical systems in secure environments. This is a highly influential role where your work directly informs operational and strategic decisions at senior government levels. It requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to translate complex insights into clear, actionable intelligence for stakeholders.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will own end-to-end machine learning lifecycle delivery while ensuring compliance, governance, and performance alignment with mission and contractual requirements.

  • Lead the full lifecycle of machine learning and statistical models, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, and retirement
  • Build and apply causal inference and Bayesian modeling approaches to support high-stakes decision-making
  • Develop and maintain model risk management frameworks, including validation, monitoring, and remediation processes
  • Create and maintain model documentation (model cards), ensuring transparency, explainability, and governance compliance
  • Integrate ethical AI principles, including fairness, bias mitigation, and human-in-the-loop oversight
  • Design and scale analytics solutions within secure DoD data fabrics and cloud environments
  • Track model performance against AQL/QASP requirements and recommend continuous improvements
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and DevSecOps teams to ensure secure and compliant deployments
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and peer review for junior data scientists and analysts
  • Deliver executive-level briefings, dashboards, and reports translating complex analytics into actionable insights
  • Support proposal development and technical solutioning for new mission opportunities
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings extensive data science experience in federal or defense environments, with strong expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and responsible AI governance.

  • 9–12 years of experience in data science, machine learning, statistics, or related fields, including federal or DoD programs
  • Master’s degree required in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field (PhD preferred)
  • Active Secret clearance with eligibility to obtain Top Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Strong expertise in causal inference and Bayesian statistical methods applied to real-world problems
  • Experience implementing model risk management frameworks in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with model documentation practices such as model cards and performance reporting
  • Strong understanding of ethical AI, including bias detection, fairness, and explainability
  • Experience deploying models in cloud environments or secure data platforms (DoD data fabrics or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in Python or R and modern ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity frameworks, RMF, and secure DevSecOps practices is a plus
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to travel occasionally for stakeholder engagement and technical reviews
Benefits
  • Competitive salary aligned with federal contracting standards and experience level
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact, mission-critical defense and intelligence programs
  • Exposure to advanced analytics, secure cloud environments, and DoD data ecosystems
  • Career development in model governance, ethical AI, and advanced statistical methods
  • Collaboration with senior government stakeholders and technical leadership teams
  • Mentorship opportunities and leadership responsibilities within a specialized data science team
  • Occasional travel supporting strategic engagements and program integration activities
