Function/Duties of PositionThe provider will serve as a dedicated, specialized GI psychologist and will operate primarily out of the ambulatory clinics within the Digestive Health Center except in very limited circumstances when GI psych expertise is needed for a hospitalized patient.
The primary function of the GI psychologist is to provide diagnostic assessment, complex medication management and psychotherapy-based practices including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBD (Cognitive Based Therapy) to support complex patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, functional GI disorders, and chronic liver disease. Specialized expertise in GI psychology will be applied in diagnosis and treatment, given the profound interrelationship between GI symptomatology and mental health, and the direct impact of pharmacologic neuromodulation on gut function.
This Psychology position will be fully embedded within the GI division with an expectation of and opportunities for division-specific conference attendance, presentations at local and regional meetings and collaboration with national GI psych experts.
