Job Description
We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in our Broomfield, CO, Location.

- Own the mechanical design and industrialization of Physics Package and MOT sub-systems, taking initial system concepts from upstream design teams and maturing them into robust, production-ready products.
- Lead product design activities including architecture refinement, design iteration, tolerance definition, and design improvements that enhance manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, yield, and cost while maintaining system performance.
- Serve as the technical owner of assigned products throughout their lifecycle, making engineering tradeoffs and driving design decisions from prototype through manufacturing release and sustained production.
- Define, develop, validate, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for physics packages, MOT, and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) hardware.
- Design and implement manufacturing tooling, fixtures, test equipment, and production workstations to enable efficient, repeatable, and scalable production.
- Collaborate with physicists, engineers, technicians, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders to successfully transition products from development into manufacturing and support ongoing product improvements.
- Develop and maintain product and manufacturing documentation including engineering drawings, assembly procedures, test procedures, engineering change orders, and production workflows.
- Lead technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and data-driven improvement initiatives to improve product performance, quality, reliability, manufacturing yield, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with vendors to establish strategic deliverables and aid in manufacturing planning to meet production rates.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum
- Minimum 7+ years of mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or product development experience
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- Advanced degree in engineering
- Experience transitioning complex prototype hardware into manufacturable, production-ready products.
- Experience owning mechanical products through the full product lifecycle, including design refinement, product release, manufacturing introduction, and sustained production support.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), tolerance analysis, and engineering change management.
- Experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems, precision mechanical assemblies, optics, photonics, atomic physics hardware, or other complex scientific instrumentation.
- Experience developing manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, test equipment, and production workflows for low-volume, high-complexity products.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary technical efforts and collaborating effectively with engineers, physicists, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.
- Experience using CAD and PLM/PDM systems to manage product designs, engineering documentation, releases, and change orders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using a data-driven approach.
Compensation & Benefits:
Incentive Eligible – Range posted is inclusive of bonus targetThe pay range for this role is $152,000– $190,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
