Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Operating Room Technician to join our surgical team. This position is responsible for supporting the surgical team in the preparation and performance of ophthalmic procedures while maintaining a safe, efficient, and sterile operating room environment.
The Ophthalmic OR Technician works closely with ophthalmic surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure that surgical cases are prepared appropriately and proceed smoothly and efficiently.
Requirements:Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room for ophthalmic surgical procedures according to established protocols.
- Prepare and organize surgical charts, instruments, equipment, medications, supplies, charts, and implants prior to each case.
- Maintain sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide instruments and supplies efficiently and accurately.
- Assist with the setup and operation of ophthalmic surgical equipment.
- Verify IOLs, implants, medications, and other surgical supplies according to established protocols.
- Perform surgical counts and assist with required documentation.
- Assist with operating room turnover between cases.
- Clean, disinfect, and prepare instruments and equipment in accordance with facility policies and manufacturer instructions for use.
- Assist with instrument processing and sterilization as required.
- Maintain an organized operating room and appropriate supply inventory.
- Follow all facility policies, infection-control standards, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance and infection-prevention activities.
- Maintain professionalism and provide respectful, compassionate care to patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous operating room, surgical technician, or related healthcare experience preferred.
- Previous ophthalmic surgical experience preferred.
- Experience with cataract surgery and ophthalmic procedures is a plus.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical safety practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to safely handle delicate ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
- Willingness and ability to learn ophthalmic-specific procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively as part of a close-knit surgical team. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to patient safety, surgical efficiency, infection prevention, and maintaining high standards of care.
Ophthalmic experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided to a qualified candidate who demonstrates the appropriate skills, professionalism, dependability, and willingness to learn.
