Job Description

LOCATION: SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

Position Summary

The Gas Distribution Foreman is responsible for leading and directing field crews performing natural gas distribution construction, maintenance, repair, and service work. This is a working-lead position that combines hands-on field work with crew supervision, production management, safety oversight, quality control, and coordination with project management.

The ideal candidate is an experienced utility construction professional who can effectively lead a crew, operate equipment, understand gas distribution construction practices, identify hazards, solve field problems, and maintain consistent production without sacrificing safety or quality.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Supervision

  • Direct and supervise a crew of utility workers on daily gas distribution activities.
  • Assign work to crew members based on project requirements, individual capabilities, and production priorities.
  • Lead daily safety tailgate meeting and communicate work assignments, expectations, hazards, and production goals.
  • Monitor crew performance and provide direction, coaching, and corrective feedback when necessary.
  • Maintain a professional and productive work environment.
  • Serve as the primary field leader and point of contact for crew members.
  • Communicate staffing, equipment, material, and production needs to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Ensure crew members understand and follow company policies, jobsite procedures, and client requirements.
  • Train and mentor less-experienced employees in safe and proper utility construction practices.

Gas Distribution Construction

  • Perform hands-on work associated with natural gas distribution construction, maintenance, and service activities.
  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain gas distribution lines and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, compaction, and restoration activities.
  • Work around existing underground utilities and ensure appropriate procedures are followed before and during excavation.
  • Assist with service line installation, gas main work, tie-ins, repairs, relocations, and other utility construction activities as assigned.
  • Read and understand plans, work orders, specifications, and field instructions.
  • Verify that work is being performed according to project plans and established construction standards.
  • Identify unexpected field conditions and communicate issues to management before proceeding when they may affect scope, safety, cost, or schedule.
  • Safely operate construction equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Operate equipment such as excavators, skid steers, trenchers, backhoes, and other utility construction equipment as qualified.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns.
  • Ensure equipment is used appropriately and maintained in accordance with company requirements.

Safety

  • Lead by example and maintain a strong safety culture on every jobsite.
  • Conduct and participate in daily tailgate safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
  • Identify hazards associated with excavation, traffic, underground utilities, gas operations, equipment, weather, and other field conditions.
  • Ensure proper PPE is worn and required safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensure excavation and trenching activities comply with applicable safety requirements.
  • Stop work when an unsafe condition exists and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.

Qualifications

Required

  • Previous experience as a Gas Distribution Foreman.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a field crew.
    • Strong understanding of excavation and underground utility construction practices.
    • Ability to operate construction equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Ability to read and understand work orders, plans, drawings, and project instructions.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to pass required company and customer safety requirements.

    Preferred

    • Class A CDL.
