Job Description
Are you a builder?
Not just someone who maintains the books, but someone who sees a process that isn't working and can't help but fix it? Someone who thrives in the middle of complexity, knows what "right" looks like, and gets genuinely excited about turning operational chaos into financial clarity? If that sounds like you, keep reading.
About the Company:
Our client is one of the fastest-growing brands in the meat industry and they're not just disrupting a category, they're redefining what it means to do business responsibly. Built on a regenerative mission, this company sources 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised proteins with a commitment to positive returns for the land, animals, ranchers, and consumers. They've gone from packing boxes in a garage to a nationally recognized brand featured in Forbes, Bloomberg, and Bon Appetit and they're just getting started.
This is a company where culture isn't a buzzword. It's the reason people stay, and it's the first thing you notice when you talk to the team.
The Opportunity:
The organization is entering a new phase of operational maturity, and they need a sharp, hands-on Accounting Manager to help build the financial foundation that gets them there. This isn't a "maintain the status quo" role. It's a builder role. You'll own the costing function, lead the transition from average to standard costing, and work cross-functionally with ops and supply chain to bring real cost visibility and inventory discipline to a complex, perishable environment.
You won't be on an island. You'll have a collaborative Controller above you, visibility to the CFO, and a supportive accounting team around you. What you will need is the confidence to step into ambiguity, assess how things are being done, and know what "right" looks like
What You'll Own:
The primary focus of this role is costing and inventory, with general accounting as a supporting lane:
- Lead the transition from average costing to a standard costing methodology, including design, implementation, and governance
- Build and maintain standard costs across materials, labor, and overhead
- Develop variance reporting across price, usage, yield, and manufacturing variances
- Analyze yield, shrink, and spoilage and translate findings into actionable operational insights
- Partner with operations, procurement, and co-manufacturers on BOM integrity, routing assumptions, and cost drivers
- Own SKU and channel-level margin analysis, incorporating freight, processing, and waste factors
- Support COGS forecasting and budgeting, including commodity-driven fluctuations
- Help drive the business off spreadsheets and into the ERP system, a meaningful lift and a high-impact win
- Support month-end close, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Help build scalable internal controls and prepare for the company's first financial audit in 2026
- Mentor junior team members as the accounting function grows
Who You Are:
You've built things before. You've walked into environments where the processes weren't right, figured out what needed to change, and had the technical chops and drive to fix it. You don't need everything handed to you. You need a clear mission and the support to execute it.
Specifically, you bring:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful time in CPG. The depth matters more than a straight line
- Strong cost accounting background, ideally including experience implementing or significantly improving a costing methodology
- Solid understanding of inventory accounting in a manufacturing or perishable environment, including yield, shrink, spoilage, and WIP
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, build-as-you-go environment where things are still being figured out
- ERP experience (Cin7 or QBO a plus, but not a dealbreaker)
- Advanced Excel skills
- A bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA or CMA is a nice-to-have, not a requirement
- Meat or protein industry experience is a plus but not required. The right foundation and the right mindset matter more
Compensation & Perks:
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Remote flexibility
- Health insurance
- 401k
- A front-row seat to a company growing fast, with real upward mobility for someone who earns it
This isn't just an accounting job. It's a chance to build something that matters, at a company that's proving you don't have to choose between doing well and doing good. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and leave your mark, we want to hear from you.
