Position Overview
The Medical Assistant (MA) is an essential member of the clinical team in a fast-paced podiatry practice, supporting providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This position is part of a structured Tiered Medical Assistant Program designed to strengthen clinical skills, promote professional development, and support long-term career growth while ensuring consistency and efficiency across all clinic locations.
We are seeking a motivated Medical Assistant to join our team. This role offers increasing levels of responsibility over time through a defined MA Tier structure, based on skill, experience, performance, and demonstrated competencies.
Medical Assistants are assigned to Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 and may advance or be reassigned through formal performance evaluations and ongoing managerial review.
MA Tier Program Purpose
The MA Tier Program is designed to:
- Standardize Medical Assistant responsibilities across the organization
- Improve consistency and efficiency in patient care delivery
- Support structured career growth and skill advancement
- Ensure accountability through measurable performance expectations
- Enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes in podiatry care
Core Responsibilities (All MA Levels)
All Medical Assistants, regardless of tier, are expected to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered care by performing the following duties:
- Participate in morning clinical huddles
- Prepare, stock, clean, and sanitize exam rooms and equipment
- Update patient schedules, room assignments, and visit status in real time
- Navigate electronic medical records (EMR), including encounters, notes, and documents
- Enter patient histories (HPI), past medical history, medication reconciliation, and vital signs
- Communicate physician orders and provide patient education materials
- Prepare work/school notes, letters, and clinical documentation
- Obtain informed consent for procedures and durable medical equipment (DME)
- Notify appropriate staff of OTC product or DME purchases
- Complete requisitions for labs, pathology, imaging, and referrals
- Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment following infection control protocols
- Maintain communication with providers and clinical team members
- Track and manage inventory and supply flow
- Perform Diabetic Foot Exams
- Participate in clinical testing programs (e.g., QuantaFlo, Safe Balance) when available
Performance Evaluation and Advancement
- Performance evaluations are conducted annually, with monthly check-ins between the MA and manager .
- Evaluations assess clinical competency, productivity, communication, and adherence to policies
- Advancement or reassignment between tiers is based on demonstrated performance and skill mastery
- Employees on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) or disciplinary action are not eligible for advancement or pay increases during that period
- Failure to meet tier expectations may result in reassignment to a lower tier and adjustment of compensation to the initial program level

All Medical Assistants are eligible to participate in the OTC Bonus Program and may earn additional compensation for qualifying sales:

- Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control guidelines
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality
- Adhere to clinical safety protocols and scope of practice
