The PSS (Peer Support Specialist) Case Manager is an active member of the Ancillary services program and provides case management and peer support services to individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders (serious mental illness and substance use disorder). The PSS Case Manager will use their own lived experience to demonstrate how they have directed their own recovery, and to help engage, mentor, and advocate for vulnerable individuals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist participants in articulating personal recovery goals using individual and group sessions by helping participants identify strengths, create goals, develop recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports, and resources to aid them in achieving those goals
- Utilize tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist participants in creating their own individualized wellness and recovery plans
- Assist participants in working with their therapist, and/or treatment team in determining the steps they need to take in order to achieve these goals
- Assist participants in locating, accessing, and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups
- Assist participants in identifying, accessing, and using community resources and overcome fears so that participants gain hope and learn to identify their strengths
- Use individual and/or group mentoring and modeling to assist participants with developing empowerment skills and combating stigma
- Clearly and consistently communicate with program staff about the needs, experience, and observations of participants, and ways to improve the program to support participant success
- Actively seek out and engage clients where they are (e.g., on the streets, in encampments, or local shelters) to build rapport and assess their immediate need
- Complete necessary documentation, including clinical progress notes and quarterly reviews, using a computer in a timely and accurate manner
Other Job Functions:
- Participate in agency and staff team meetings as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Completion of a state-approved 40-hour PSS training course
- PSS certification on the Oregon Traditional Health Worker Registry (Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) certification, or PSS with a specialization in co-occurring disorders is preferred)
- Willingness to identify as a consumer of mental health services
- Valid Oregon Driver License in accordance with Laurel Hill Center vehicle use policy and procedures
- Documentation of successful completion of a background and fingerprint check as specified by Oregon law, as well as a urinalysis drug screen
Drug Screening Requirement
Successful candidates must complete and maintain compliance with Laurel Hill Center’s drug-free workplace standards, which include:
- Passing a urinalysis drug screening with a negative result for THC
- Ongoing compliance with agency drug testing policies, as applicable
- While marijuana is legal under Oregon state law, this requirement is based on Laurel Hill Center’s contractual, regulatory, and funding obligations, which mandate adherence to drug-free workplace standards.
- Failure to meet or maintain these requirements may impact employment eligibility.
