This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced coding professional to support high-quality, patient-centered care in a specialized clinical environment focused on foot and ankle medicine. The position plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of medical documentation by translating complex clinical records into standardized CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes. You will collaborate closely with physicians, clinical teams, and revenue cycle stakeholders to maintain compliance, reduce errors, and optimize billing performance. The role also contributes to identifying coding trends, improving documentation quality, and supporting continuous workflow enhancements. You will also have opportunities to support education initiatives and process improvements that directly impact operational efficiency and patient care outcomes.

Accountabilities:
  • Review clinical documentation to assign, validate, and ensure accuracy of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for both inpatient and outpatient encounters.
  • Apply appropriate E/M and surgical coding guidelines, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations.
  • Monitor documentation quality, follow up on incomplete or deferred accounts, and collaborate with providers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify coding trends, error patterns, and denial drivers, and support reporting and analysis of coding performance metrics.
  • Provide feedback and education to physicians, clinical teams, and revenue cycle stakeholders to improve documentation accuracy.
  • Support coding-related denial resolution and assist in implementing corrective action plans and workflow improvements.
  • Contribute to coding tools, process updates, and training initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy across the organization.
Requirements:

This role requires a certified and experienced coding professional with strong knowledge of physician-based coding standards and healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working independently while collaborating across clinical and administrative teams.

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-Based (CCS-P) required; COC certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of coding experience in podiatry, foot and ankle orthopedics, and/or wound care strongly preferred.
  • Strong expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and evaluation & management (E/M) coding guidelines.
  • Solid understanding of payer rules, compliance standards, and healthcare billing regulations.
  • Ability to analyze medical records to detect inconsistencies and ensure coding accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and healthcare billing systems (experience with Modernizing Medicine or eClinicalWorks is a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear coding feedback.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a focused environment with extended periods of concentration.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining up-to-date coding knowledge.
Benefits:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • Life insurance and flexible spending/healthcare spending accounts
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Remote work flexibility
  • Training and professional development opportunities
