Job Description
Job Summary:
The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is required to float to a variety of hospitals and units to meet staffing needs. The RN performs under the direct supervision of the nurse leader on-site during the shift and is delegated an assignment to achieve quality patient care. The RN may act as the nurse leader on site. The RN shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the patient care team as evidenced by documentation in the Patient Care Record, direct observation by nurse leaders and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible to the nurse leader on the unit for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Director of Nursing of the unit he/she is working for the shifts worked. Walthall General Hospital Director of Nursing will be the direct supervisor of this float nurse. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the Forrest Health Goals and Priorities. Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization's established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
- Properly utilization of equipment assigned including but not limited to telemetry monitors, wound vac, IV infusion pumps, accucheck, cardiac monitors, fluid warmers, IO drill, IV infusion pumps and defibrillator.
- Thorough physical assessment of patients and report any identified decline to the supervisor and provider.
- Complete and accurate use/maintenance of a central line and the care, IV insertion/care and blood transfusions.
- Always respect and maintain confidentiality and dignity of the patient by utilizing We C.A.R.E
- Communicate and interact with providers, team, patients and visitors/family utilizing We CARE philosophy.
- Safely maintain the sterile field as needed.
- Identify patients and complete barcode scanning and medication administration accurately.
- Accurately enter provider generated orders as appropriate in the Electronic Health Record.
- Monitor supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens to Lab in a timely manner.
- Prioritize workload and multi-task.
- Utilize the EMR for the provision of patient care.
- Educate the patient and family on diagnosis, care, medications, visitation policy and handwashing
- Supervise and delegate patient care task to team members including nurse aid, volunteers, and ancillary staff.
- Complete walking rounds with oncoming shift and include the patient and family in report.
- Ability to care for the critically ill patient in all aspects of their necessary nursing care.
- Perform documentation with concise details of clinical condition of the patient and organization skills.
- Functions effectively in emergencies, demonstrating knowledge of ACLS and critical care medications.
- Maintain Isolation Procedures as ordered
- Perform Hand Hygiene with 100 percent compliance.
- Remains calm and demonstrates composure during stressful situation(s) or environment
- Maintains confidentiality while on or off duty.
- Performs tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for self and the patient.
- Completes triage assessments and sorting according to acuity without error (ER specific).
- Utilizes excellent and thorough written communication while charting in the electronic health record.
- Acknowledge, verifies, and performs said orders as directed by providers.
- Intervenes appropriately and quickly when a patient condition worsens requiring immediate provider attention.
- Reports to duty for any emergency operations as needed.
- Flexibility and adaptability to multiple environments and teams.
- Excellent and frequent communication within float team matrix.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized accredited RN program required.
Work Experience:
Required to have one year of medical-surgical nursing experience in an acute-care setting, as well as staff nursing experience in an acute care setting within the past year. One year experience in emergency and intensive care nursing preferred.
