Job Description
Position Summary
The Wastewater Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the facility's wastewater treatment systems to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations. This role performs routine testing, monitors treatment processes, adjusts chemical dosing, maintains equipment, and ensures compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and monitor effluent treatment plant equipment, including pumps, valves, aerators, mixers, filtration systems, and related treatment equipment.
- Monitor treatment processes to ensure wastewater is treated effectively and discharged in accordance with regulatory permit requirements.
- Collect wastewater samples and perform routine laboratory testing, including pH, conductivity, and other required analyses.
- Calculate and adjust chemical feed rates to maintain proper treatment performance and water quality standards.
- Inspect gauges, meters, instrumentation, and control panels to verify proper system operation.
- Maintain accurate operating logs, inspection records, laboratory results, and regulatory documentation.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including cleaning tanks, filters, pumps, and associated equipment.
- Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel as needed.
- Monitor chemical inventory and notify management when supplies require replenishment.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permit requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all applicable safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist during environmental inspections and audits by providing required documentation and operational support.
- Respond to operational issues or emergencies as necessary to maintain continuous treatment operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid state Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) or Wastewater Operator License appropriate for the facility.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, technical manuals, and operating procedures.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with maintenance, production, and environmental teams.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, chemical handling, pumps, motors, and process controls.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of wastewater treatment principles and environmental regulations.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory testing and interpret results.
- Mechanical troubleshooting and preventive maintenance skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and respond appropriately to changing operational needs.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
- Ability to work around chemicals, wastewater treatment equipment, and industrial machinery safely.
This position works primarily in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to wastewater treatment systems, chemicals, moving mechanical equipment, noise, and varying temperatures. The employee must follow all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
Certifications- Valid State Wastewater/ETP Operator License (required).
