About the role

The Finish Department Technician is responsible for performing precise and high-quality finishing operations on aerospace-grade castings. This position ensures all parts meet dimensional and cosmetic specifications required by aerospace and defense industry standards before shipment or further processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and machine-based finishing operations, including grinding, sandblasting, cutoff, gate removal, blending, deburring, and surface conditioning.
  • Operate grinding wheels, belt sanders, pneumatic tools, and other finishing equipment while following strict safety procedures.
  • Interpret traveler paperwork, work instructions, and blueprints to determine finishing requirements.
  • Identify and report casting defects or nonconformances to Quality or Engineering personnel.
  • Maintain process documentation and ensure traceability in accordance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in workflow, safety, and quality performance.
  • Assist with part handling, staging, and routing between the finishing, inspection, and heat-treat departments.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in metal finishing, foundry work, or precision manufacturing (aerospace preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and traveler documents.
  • Basic knowledge of aerospace quality standards and inspection techniques.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and proper PPE use.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Tolerance for working in a production environment with noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience with nickel-base or cobalt-base superalloy components.
  • Familiarity with investment casting processes and finishing systems like cutoff saws and blast cabinets.
  • Strong teamwork skill with a proactive, quality-first attitude.
