Job Summary:
As the local lead, a majority of this role will be spent cultivating relationships with individual donors. Responsible for establishing and growing a presence Ann Arbor community of donors and supporters around end-of-life care. Working with board members and community volunteers to expand outreach focused on development activities, including major gifts, special events, third party fundraisers, and foundation relations.
Essential Functions:
- Develops a comprehensive plan for major gifts including goals and measurements of success.
- Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major gift prospects. Manages a portfolio of a 100+ major gift relationships.
- Leads efforts relating to donor recognition including annual recognition activities including communication with donors regarding name recognition, receptions, etc.
- Leads efforts to create donor backgrounds and profiles for use by NorthStar Care Community administration and volunteer-solicitors for Special Events and one-on-one solicitations.
- Represents our hospice program at third-party events and other community/black-tie events.
- Assists with planning, implementation and evaluation of our hospice program-sponsored fundraising events, annual campaign and other special projects on the local and statewide level.
- Proactively keeps abreast of hospice and palliative care trends, best practices and any anticipated compliance changes. Takes appropriate action to ensure a culture of excellence is maintained.
- Works closely with database staff to plan, implement and continuously improve prospect management.
- Aids in campaign strategies, major gifts and annual giving as part of the development team.
- Effectively establishes, leads, facilitates and participates in meetings at the individual, group and organizational levels, both within and external to the organization, with ease and comfort to achieve desired outcomes.
- Maintains oversight of all employee performance outcomes within a designated geographic region(s) within the State of Michigan and ensures that a culture of accountability and responsibility is fostered to achieve desired performance outcomes and staff competency.
- In collaboration with the special events lead staff, manages the staffing, coordination and execution of special events, including staffing of volunteers.
- Maintains oversight of all allocated resources within a designated region including but not limited to time, expenses, supplies and labor and ensures pre-determined financial margins and/or outcomes are achieved.
- Ensures internal and external education, training and activities for self and staff to promote personal and professional growth and to ensure staff competency is maintained at all times.
- Models and promotes knowledge of palliative care and hospice philosophies and articulates and promotes NorthStar Care Community’s vision, mission, and values locally, statewide and nationally.
- Proactively develops, maintains positive relationships with donors for the benefit of the organization.
- Upholds organizational Code of Conduct, policies and procedures and all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Upholds the C.A.R.E. Model of Service: courtesy, acknowledgement, response and empathy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years development experience with increasing responsibility required.
- Computer skills to include excellent typing level and extensive experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and preferably some Raisers Edge software experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of funding sources.
- Demonstrated ability to produce results while still being a team player required.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and be able to communicate orally and in writing in internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence and the ability to maintain confidentiality and promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to travel and maintain the rigors of a busy schedule. Frequently works variable hours/days; activities and workload may require extended days
- The physical and sensory demands of the position include: vision, effective speech and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty five (25) pounds unassisted.
