About This Position

We are experts in custom stainless steel fabrication serving a wide variety of industries. Our estimators work closely with our customers to understand upcoming projects, and then use tools like Solidworks, Excel, and our ERP system to determine a build strategy and estimate a cost. Our estimating process is evolving to be more 3D model based, and so ideal candidates would have CAD experience with Solidworks or similar software.

Essential Duties:

Communicate with customers to understand all requirements provided on drawings and specifications.

Work with engineering and production to find creative and inventive ways of using factory machine tools to produce custom products efficiently and cost effectively.

Estimate labor hours and material costs to perform scope of work.

Coordinate with outside vendors or subcontractors to prepare estimates on aspects of a job Northern does not fabricate in-house.

Drive continuous improvements of the estimating process to improve accuracy and reduce effort.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Relevant work experience with detailed knowledge of industry processes, materials, and costs
  • 3D CAD experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong attention to details that may impact a project’s overall cost
  • Analytical skills, ability to accurately evaluate detailed specifications to determine how to minimize costs without sacrificing quality
  • Trouble shooting skills with a solution-focused approach to projects
  • Time-management skills, ability to work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
