Position Summary

The ICU Patient and Visitor Experience Intern will work under the guidance of ICU leadership to support initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall experience of patients and their loved ones. This role will focus on identifying and implementing opportunities to improve the ICU environment, comfort measures, and communication practices. The intern will engage with staff, patients, and visitors to gather feedback, observe workflows, and contribute to projects that promote a more compassionate, welcoming, and responsive care environment. This is an ideal opportunity for a student or early-career professional interested in healthcare administration, patient advocacy, or quality improvement.

Position Responsibilities

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities-
Collaborate with ICU leadership to assess current patient and visitor experience practices.

Conduct observations and gather feedback from patients, families, visitors, and staff to identify areas for improvement.

Assist in developing and implementing initiatives and resource tool kits that enhance the ICU environment, including comfort measures and visual aesthetics.

Track and report progress on experience improvement projects, including data collection and analysis.
-
Help create and distribute educational or informational materials to improve clarity and reduce anxiety for patients and visitors.
-
Support development of ICU lockdown/visitor access procedures, incorporating staff feedback.

Support workforce engagement and education by developing onboarding materials, promoting staff wellness, and gathering feedback to improve the ICU experience.

Assist in organizing or documenting ICU simulation events (mock codes, disaster drills).

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
-
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
-
Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in healthcare administration, nursing, public health, psychology, communications, or a related field.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and staff.

Demonstrated interest in patient experience, healthcare quality improvement, or service design.
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced clinical environment.

Organizational Requirements:

Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
