DEFINITION OF POSITION
-
The Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist provides surgical scrub support during Obstetric/Gynecologic procedures and direct patient care within CNA II scope when deliveries or surgeries are not occurring. The role ensures safe, high-quality, and compassionate care for patients, maintaining readiness for emergent cases while supporting the overall function of the unit. The Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist primarily acts as the scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist assists Anesthesia personnel, Surgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, Instrument Technicians, and Operating Room (OR) attendants in providing optimal patient care before, during, and after surgery.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional
-
Graduate from an accredited or approved Surgical Technologist program. If a graduate from an approved Surgical Technologist program, need to provide competency/clinical experience documentation.

Surgical Technologist certification preferred (all Surgical Technologists have one year from hire date to complete certification requirements).

Maintains listing with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation, Healthcare Personnel Registry as a Nurse Aide I.

Meets continuing education requirements annually

Labor and Delivery or Women’s Health surgical experience preferred

Current AHA BLS certification required; NRP preferred
