About This Position

Grays Harbor College is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) Instructor to implement, manage, and teach in the Medical Assistant Program. The first year of the MA Program is a partnership between the Twin Harbors Branch Skill Center housed at Aberdeen High School and Grays Harbor College. (Classes will be dual credit for high school students; i.e., courses will count as high school credits and college credits.) High school seniors who complete the first year MA course work will be able to continue into the second year of the program as college students. Students in the second year of the MA program will be college students.

The GHC Medical Assistant Program currently has one full-time Lead Instructor/ Practicum Coordinator/ Program Director. This second full-time instructor will allow for increased capacity with a second cohort beginning this Fall.

This is a full-time, non tenure-track position. The placement on the salary schedule for 174 Day Contract will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire. Initial placement of faculty shall be no higher than 5 years of service. The 174 Day Salary Schedule can be viewed at https://www.ghc.edu/hr/labor-relations. Full-time faculty will also receive 1 day of sick leave per month and 5 days of personal leave days a year.

Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984.   • Coordinate communications, schedules, and other duties between the Twin Harbor Skill Center and Grays Harbor College.
  • Manage the learning environment. (i.e., classroom, laboratory, equipment, supplies, work orders for repairs).
  • Instruct students in all areas of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) Core Curriculum.
  • Maintain, update, and assess curriculum course and program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain student and program records.
  • Recruit students and market the program.
  • Attend program advisory committee meetings.
  • Participate in division and campus assessment activities.
  • Develop a Career and Technical Education Certification Plan with the Twin Harbors Skills Center Director to serve skills center students.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with other faculty and staff.
  • Creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Develop a Career and Technical Education Certification Plan with the Twin Harbors Skills Center Director in order to serve skills center students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license in Washington State.
  • Possess an Associate Degree or a plan to obtain an Associate Degree.
  • Member of the AAMA or obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Have a minimum of three years' recent work experience in a medical office setting.
  • Have a minimum of three years' recent work experience as a Medical Assistant including at least 160 hours in an ambulatory health care setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Vocational/technical teaching experience at the secondary or community college level.
  • Possess an AA in Medical Assisting or BA in an allied health discipline.
  • Experience with instructional technologies..
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer skills including EHR/EMRs.
  • Knowledge and experience with multiculturalism and ethnic diversity.
  • Bilingual/bicultural (English and Spanish).
  • Teaching experience.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with other faculty and staff.
  • Creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.
