About This Position
SUMMARY
A person who possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). Under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, this person provides individual nutrition assessments and education, assigns nutritional risk, provides self-management support to improve the nutritional status of low risk patients, and ensures patients at high nutritional risk are referred to a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to receive Medical Nutrition Therapy.
REPORTS TO: Associate Director, Quality & Health Education
REQUIREMENTS
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics AND a Verification Statement from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Program in Dietetics.
2. Experience with special nutritional needs.
3. A working knowledge of cultural foods, particularly Hispanic.
4. Thorough working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and contemporary general office practices and procedures.
5. Math skills sufficient to prepare routine spreadsheets, calculate/balance invoices/expense reports.
6. Basic leadership skills.
7. Demonstrated supervisory skills sufficient to supervise interns and/or volunteers.
8. Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health record systems, and database systems.
9. Typing/data entry skills sufficient to meet production requirements.
10. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and others.
11. Very effective oral and written communications skills including public speaking experience.
12. Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate with others in a professional and caring manner including sensitivity with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles.
13. Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively in spite of interruptions and under minimal supervision. Self-starter, reliable and dependable.
14. Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).
15. Fluency in English (speak, read and write). Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read and write) is required.
