Director of Human Resources
Multi-Site Healthcare Operations | Exempt | Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Position Overview
The Director of Human Resources serves as a senior strategic partner to facility leadership across multiple sites, driving a people-first culture that supports clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and organizational growth. This role is not simply administrative — it is a seat at the leadership table. The right candidate brings deep healthcare HR experience, the instinct to anticipate people challenges before they surface, and the credibility to influence decisions at every level of the organization.

What You Will Do
This role carries broad ownership across the full HR function — from talent strategy to compliance architecture to culture. The following represents how your time and energy will be allocated:

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Strategy — Lead multi-site recruitment strategy in partnership with Talent Acquisition. Build pipelines for high-demand clinical and non-clinical positions. Approve offers and drive time-to-fill accountability across all facilities. | 20% |
HR Compliance & Policy Governance — Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws as well as accreditation standards (Joint Commission, CARF). Architect and maintain HR policies, handbooks, job descriptions, and salary administration frameworks. | 20% |
Employee Relations & Organizational Health — Lead complex employee relations matters, investigations, and disciplinary processes across sites. Serve as a trusted advisor to facility leadership. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion as a business imperative, not a checkbox. | 15% |
Culture, Leadership Development & Performance — Build and sustain a high-performance culture aligned with the organization's mission and values. Partner with Staff Development to drive competency standards, manager coaching, and leadership capability across all facilities. | 15% |
Benefits, Retention & Total Rewards — Oversee benefit plan administration, open enrollment, workers' compensation, and employee recognition programs. Lead enterprise-wide turnover reduction and agency utilization strategies. | 10% |
Training, Onboarding & Education — Design and deliver orientation, onboarding, and ongoing education programs. Ensure all training meets regulatory and accreditation requirements and elevates the quality of care and service. | 10% |
Payroll Oversight & HR Operations — Provide executive oversight of timekeeping and payroll functions. Ensure HR operations deliver a consistent, high-quality experience across every facility. | 5% |
Professional Development & Innovation — Stay current on healthcare HR trends, regulatory changes, and best practices. Identify and implement tools, methodologies, and process improvements that strengthen the HR function. | 5% |
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive HR experience, with at least two (2) years in a multi-site or system-level healthcare role
- Deep working knowledge of federal and state employment law, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEOC, and OSHA
- Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations matters and leading HR through organizational change
- Current, valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification strongly preferred
- Experience with Joint Commission and/or CARF accreditation standards specific to human resources
- Prior experience in a long-term acute care, post-acute, or specialty hospital environment
- Track record of building HR infrastructure in a growth-stage or newly acquired healthcare organization

Regulatory & Compliance Responsibilities
This role carries significant compliance obligations across multiple dimensions:
- Maintains HR compliance with The Joint Commission, CARF, and all applicable federal and state regulatory requirements
- Partners with legal counsel and the Divisional Director of Human Resources on risk matters, employment claims, and policy interpretation
- Ensures all employee files, credentialing records, and HR documentation meet accreditation and audit standards
- Upholds strict confidentiality of employee, resident, and organizational information at all times
- Promotes and protects resident rights; ensures HR practices reinforce a culture of dignity and respect
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as a visible and trusted presence across all facility locations, modeling the organization's mission, vision, and values
- Maintain productive working relationships with medical professionals, community organizations, and external HR partners
- Attend and contribute to facility-wide leadership meetings, safety programs, and performance improvement initiatives
- Access continuing education appropriate to scope of responsibility and maintain all required certifications
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is primarily an inside, office-based role with regular travel between facilities. The noise level is generally moderate. The following physical demands are associated with this position:
