About This Position

Description:

Altitude Access Solutions Inc., the new operator of the Syracuse Hancock International Airport parking operation is growing and seeking dedicated, hardworking individuals to join our team. As our operations expand, we have multiple new positions available. We are looking for full time Shuttle Drivers who take pride in their work, value excellent customer service, and enjoy contributing to a positive, reliable, and safety-focused environment.

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of passengers while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining vehicle safety, cleanliness, and complying with standard procedures and policies at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). SYR is a 24/7 operation, and this position may have special shift requirements such as working second and third shift, as well as weekends, and holidays.

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate airport shuttle vehicles to transport passengers between parking facilities and terminal locations
  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with questions, directions, luggage, and accessibility needs, when necessary
  • Adhere to all airport safety regulations, traffic laws, and organizational driving standards.
  • Maintain adequate fuel levels and ensure tank is full at end of each shift
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the bus’s interior and exterior, ensuring a professional and comfortable environment for passengers and staff
  • Monitor passenger/staff counts and maintain accurate logs
  • Complete a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) before and after each shift and report any mechanical or safety concerns immediately
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the Airport layout, terminal, traffic patterns, and operational procedures
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and supervisors, reporting delays, incidents, or operational updates in real time
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, such as medical issues or vehicle incidents, following all safety protocols
  • Assist during peak traffic periods, helping maintain efficient workflow and minimizing wait times for passengers
  • Support airport events and special operations, providing additional transportation services as needed
  • Secure lost-and-found items, following proper documentation and handoff procedures
  • Responsible for possessing and maintaining a valid state-issued driver’s license that is to be carried with the driver at all times while on duty
  • Provide excellent customer service to passengers by answering any questions that arise. If needed, escalate any customer issues to supervisor/manager
  • Report any known accidents and safety hazards to supervisor/manager
  • Communicate quickly and effectively any debris, water, and/or oil spills to the garage office
  • Executes additional responsibilities as assigned to support operational continuity and organizational objectives

Due to weather events and operational emergencies, employees may be required to work extended hours or mandatory overtime to maintain safe operations.

Requirements:
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondences, and memos
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the parking lots, and surrounding area, including major streets, landmarks, and freeways
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, when necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to drive the vehicle required for the position
  • Standing and walking regularly
  • Sitting regularly
  • Occasionally climbing or balancing
  • May be required to occasionally lift and move up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to assist passengers with mobility needs, including use of ramps or lifts when applicable.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years’ experience driving a shuttle bus or similar vehicle required

Special Requirements:

  • Valid NYS driver’s license for the class of vehicle being driven and acceptable DMV record
  • Subject to drug-testing per company policy
  • Ability to work second and/or third shift, as well as weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to report for duty during severe weather events and emergencies, including working mandatory overtime
  • Maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with company and Airport standards
  • Possess a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate or ability to obtain and maintain one as a condition of employment
  • Must successfully complete E- Verify I9 process. We will provide E-Verify and the federal government with your I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.

*Any offer of employment would be contingent on passing a security clearance background check and pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working at an airport.
  • Previous professional driving experience, especially in shuttle, transit, or commercial driving roles.
  • Customer service experience, ideally in hospitality, transportation, or airport environments.
  • Ability to use communication devices, such as radios, tablets, or dispatch systems.
