Location: Phoenix, AZ
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $23.00–$33.00/hour + shift differential (DOE)
Shift:
• 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Monday–Friday
• Overtime, including Saturdays, as required
ITAR Requirement:
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or valid Permanent Resident status is required.
Job Summary
The Laser Operator (2nd Shift) is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC laser cutting equipment used in aerospace manufacturing. This role requires a strong understanding of laser system operation, the ability to troubleshoot common issues, and strict adherence to safety, quality, and aerospace manufacturing standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with aerospace materials and works effectively in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC laser cutting machines to produce aerospace components per customer and engineering specifications
- Install, adjust, calibrate, and align laser systems to ensure optimal performance and repeatability
- Perform test cuts and adjust machine parameters as needed to meet quality and tolerance requirements
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and work instructions
- Cut aerospace materials including nickel-based alloys (Inconel), aluminum, stainless steel, copper alloys, and other approved materials
- Design, set up, and utilize fixtures as required to support laser cutting operations
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laser equipment
- Verify material type, thickness, and job setup prior to cutting
- Accurately complete production and quality documentation in accordance with AS9100 requirements
- Collaborate with engineers, quality personnel, and team members to support new programs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements at all times
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- U.S. Citizen or valid Permanent Resident (ITAR requirement)
- Minimum 3 years of laser operator experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
- Experience setting up and operating CNC laser cutting equipment
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of AS9100 quality systems and aerospace manufacturing requirements
- Experience working with nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper alloys
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Windows-based systems and manufacturing software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Laserdyne fiber laser systems
- Understanding of GD&T
- Experience supporting aerospace audits and customer inspections
- Experience in FAA repair station environments
- NADCAP brazing experience or certification
- Familiarity with AWS C3 brazing standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 35–50 lbs
- Manual dexterity for precision work
- Ability to work in high-temperature manufacturing environments
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear
