About This Position
About the Role:
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic within the Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services industry, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational reliability and safety of heavy machinery used in waste management and remediation projects. Your expertise will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, compactors, and other specialized vehicles essential to daily operations. You will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and executing complex repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Collaboration with operations teams and adherence to safety and environmental regulations will be paramount to your success. Ultimately, your work will support the organization's mission to provide sustainable and responsible waste management solutions across various sites in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal heavy equipment mechanic training program or apprenticeship.
- Proven experience working as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably within waste management or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components of heavy machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification from recognized bodies such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in heavy equipment repair.
- Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment and maintenance management software.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and safety standards specific to waste management operations.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment for testing and troubleshooting purposes.
- Additional training or certification in welding or fabrication.
Responsibilities:
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals, and implement effective repair solutions.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory to support operational transparency and equipment tracking.
- Collaborate with equipment operators and site supervisors to identify equipment needs and schedule maintenance to minimize operational disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations during maintenance and repair activities.
Skills:
The required skills enable the mechanic to accurately diagnose and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic systems, ensuring equipment reliability and safety. Proficiency in reading technical manuals and schematics allows for precise troubleshooting and adherence to manufacturer specifications.
