Position Summary
The Sales & Service Representative – Medical Gas is responsible for developing and managing customer relationships while also performing technical service work for assigned accounts. This role combines outside sales, account management, and field service execution to support customer retention, revenue growth, and high-quality service delivery.
The ideal candidate is a customer-focused professional with medical gas industry knowledge who can identify opportunities, generate sales, manage assigned accounts, and perform testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work as needed. This position is intended to create a single point of contact for select customers by pairing sales ownership with direct field support.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned healthcare facility accounts, contractors, and key decision-makers.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts for both service needs and sales opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for recurring maintenance, repairs, upgrades, equipment replacement, and testing/certification services.
- Prepare proposals, quotations, and service recommendations for customers.
- Follow up on leads, proposals, and open opportunities to drive revenue growth.
- Meet or exceed assigned sales goals, account growth targets, and retention expectations.
- Conduct customer visits, site walks, and account reviews to assess needs and identify additional opportunities.
- Coordinate with internal sales, estimating, scheduling, and operations teams as needed to support larger opportunities or complex projects.
- Maintain accurate account activity, pipeline updates, and customer communication records in company systems.
- Perform testing, certification, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and minor installation work on medical gas systems for assigned accounts.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on medical vacuum pumps, air compressors, manifolds, and related medical gas equipment.
- Diagnose problems, replace and repair parts, test equipment, and make operational adjustments as required.
- Troubleshoot medical gas systems, controls, and related electrical/mechanical components.
- Provide thorough and accurate documentation of work performed, deficiencies noted, and recommended corrective actions.
- Utilize FieldAware or other company systems for scheduling, job tracking, documentation, and time reporting.
- Ensure assigned service work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- Communicate findings and recommended next steps clearly to customers and internal teams.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA and other relevant healthcare requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment and follow all PPE and safety requirements.
- Educate customers on system conditions, maintenance needs, and compliance-related issues.
- Address customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support emergency service needs and urgent account issues as required.
- Coordinate with schedulers and operations personnel to balance service delivery and account coverage.
- Collaborate with other sales representatives and technicians when account needs exceed individual capacity or require specialized support.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to frequently go up and down ladders and carry equipment.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, hold tools/equipment, and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to perform overhead work and work in mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and healthcare environments.
- Ability to walk, stand, and remain on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in hot or confined environments with minimal discomfort.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, team members, and leadership.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time position, and hours of work are typically Monday-Friday, but will vary based on the requirements of the assigned accounts, service calls, and customer needs. Overtime may be required.
- This job may include some nights, weekends, and after-hours support as required.
- Flexibility to work a fluctuating schedule based on customer requirements, service demands, and sales responsibilities.
Travel
- Frequent local travel is required.
- Overnight travel may be required based on territory and account needs.
- Travel may range from 50% to 75% depending on the assigned region and customer base.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in medical gas service, sales, or a related field preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of medical gas systems, equipment, and applicable codes/regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to build customer relationships and grow accounts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in one or more of the following preferred: medical gas systems, vacuum pumps, compressors, manifolds, controls, plumbing, or industrial/mechanical systems.
- Ability to perform field troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work.
- Strong communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage both account responsibilities and field service work.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and CRM/service platforms.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.

Preferred Certifications
- ASSE 6040 certification required.
- ASSE 6030 certification preferred, depending on scope of field responsibilities.
- Additional medical gas credentials or relevant mechanical/electrical experience preferred.
