Overnight ER Assistant at Veterinary Referral Center of Central Oregon Inc – Bend, Oregon

The assistant hero will work under doctors and technicians from various departments (surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, and emergency) with an emphasis in the emergency/patient care department.

Specific Duties Include Assisting In The Following Areas:

• Triage, admit, and treat patients under doctor/technician supervision
• Assist in performing physical exams
• Assist in placing intravenous catheters
• Work in multiple departments including emergency, internal medicine, dermatology and surgery
• Facilitate transfers of ER cases to the appropriate service
• Assist with surgical procedures and processing instruments
• Monitor and provide treatments to current in-patients
• Calculate drug doses and fill medications
• Communicate effectively and accurately to clients
• The assistant hero may occasionally be responsible for receptionist duties when the receptionist is unavailable, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, admitting patients
• Assist in implementation of isolation protocols
• Assist in taking and processing radiographs and performing advanced imaging
• Collect samples (blood, urine) and run in-house laboratory tests
• Maintain a clean hospital environment
• Maintain a happy, collaborative and positive attitude under stressful situations

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Previous veterinary assistant experience
• Comfort and knowledge of restraining animals
• Ability to learn new veterinary software
• 2 or 4 year college education

Expected salary: $20-$26 per hour depending on experience.
