About This Position

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Construction Inspector to work as a member of the Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within a Tenant Improvement Program. This role primarily focuses on building disciplines and requires a candidate capable of ensuring compliance with rigorous codes and project specifications. The Construction Inspector will act as a key technical resource, identifying deficiencies and ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards within an active operating environment.

Position Summary:
The Construction Inspector is responsible for conducting comprehensive daily inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and proprietary standards. This role requires a professional with a solid understanding of the building construction life cycle—from clearing, grubbing, and demolition to structural work and interior finishes. The Construction Inspector will ensure that all work is documented with precision, providing accountability in tracking progress and identifying deficiencies or safety concerns in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities Project & Inspection Support:
• Conduct comprehensive daily inspections across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications.
• Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Demonstrate strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities.
• Verify contractor compliance with local jurisdiction’s requirements, building codes, and facility-specific proprietary standards.
• Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.

Construction & Operational Coordination:
• Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities as tasked.
• Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
• Perform inspections related to building construction including: clearing and demolition; excavations, trenching, and shoring; grade and elevation survey; structural backfill; concrete work; metal stud framing; and fire-rated components.
• Review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, and RFIs with minimal supervision.

Risk, Financial & Stakeholder Leadership:
• Identify and address deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards and safety regulations.
• Maintain the ability to walk extremely long distances during the shift as the primary means of traversing between expansive terminals.
• Climb stairs, ladders, scaffold, and crawl into areas associated with the work taking place in the terminals.
• Write clear and concise documents depicting daily progress and verify time and material work.

Qualifications Required:
• 5+ years of experience performing construction inspection.
• Clear understanding and interpretation of Local City Building Code & ADA Requirements.
• Training in the use of fall protection equipment and harness with lanyard.
• Confined space awareness certification.
• Cal OSHA 30 hr. training and certificate.
• High School diploma (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), PM Web, Adobe Pro, and Bluebeam.

Preferred:
• ICC certifications and Deputy Inspector Licenses.
• NFPA 70E certification.
• Knowledge of large-scale construction of airport and public building facilities, including steel/concrete structures and architectural finishes.
• Experience in inspecting demolition and the construction of buildings from start to finish.

Core Competencies:
• Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to work various shifts (day, swing, modified, or night), including weekends as dictated by the contractor’s schedule.
• Openness to modified schedules and overtime as required to meet project deadlines.

Anticipated Salary Range: $124,000.00 – $135,000.00 per year
