Physician Assistant - Neuro

Location: Sinai Hospital
Schedule: Full-Time | Rotating Shifts

Job Summary

Sinai Hospital is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery and Neurology teams. This role involves performing a variety of clinical duties and technical procedures to assist in the delivery of healthcare services to patients within our Neurosurgery and Neurology departments. You will play a key role in coordinating the care of in-patient and emergency department patients, helping deliver specialized neurocare across a wide range of procedures and conditions.

The Physician Assistant will demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, building strong relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and the broader community. You will be a collaborative partner, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care. This role also offers Premium Nocturnist Pay for those working night shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care to patients in the Neurosurgery and Neurology departments, attending to both in-patient and emergency department needs.

  • Assist with a variety of neurocritical care procedures including craniotomies, spinal surgeries, and diagnostic testing such as ICP monitoring and CSF drainage trials.

  • Perform duties in compliance with hospital and departmental policies to ensure safety for both patients and staff.

  • Maintain active engagement with continuing education, identifying training and development opportunities.

  • Ensure documentation compliance with hospital and department policies, including maintaining National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and Maryland State Licensure requirements.

  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and management of neurocritical and general neurosurgery patients.

  • Engage in patient and family education to ensure understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

Procedures of Care You Will Be Involved In:
  • Baclofen pumps for spasticity management

  • Craniotomy/craniectomy and spinal surgeries (e.g., discectomy, laminectomy, fusions)

  • Deep brain stimulation and spinal cord stimulation procedures

  • Endovascular cerebral aneurysm treatment and interventional neuroradiology

  • Stroke interventions (chemical and mechanical)

  • Ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery

  • Intraoperative monitoring and diagnostic ICP monitoring

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Experience:

  • Preferred: Experience in interventional neurology or neurocritical care.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Required:

    • Maryland Physician Assistant License

    • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification

    • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications

Skills:

  • Strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform complex neuroprocedures.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
