About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
Electric Engineering Tech I is technical position that provides support for the design, construction, maintenance, and upgrading of our electric facilities infrastructure. The incumbent will be responsible for performing technical work and providing professional, technical, and administrative support to engineering personnel. People in this position must exhibit leadership qualities. This person should have a great work ethic and be self-motivated. This position will require meetings with developers, contractors, other City departments, and customers. This position requires a basic understanding of electric utilities design practices and a working knowledge of industry materials and standards. This person should be confident when dealing with new ideas and situations and should always be learning from these instances.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)
- Responsible for spotting electric for new services and security lights.
- Prepare drawings and work orders as necessary for new services and maintenance.
- Aide electrical personnel in the restoration of electrical services during emergencies.
- Prepare dig notifications.
- Work with GIS to create and update pole transfer notifications.
- Obtain easements, property descriptions and property deeds for service when necessary.
- Prepare billing information for projects that are billable
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Should be ITS certified or ability to become certified within 1 year.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) years’ experience in Electric Engineering in the electric utility industry or have attended and passed Groundman school.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be comfortable using different electronic equipment and softwares.
- Should be inclined toward engineering, drafting or associated work.
- Good oral and written communication skills with a strong desire to meet all customer expectations.
- Good reasoning, problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work unsupervised.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Mobility to work in typical office settings using standard office equipment is required. In addition, vision to read printed materials and computer screen and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. The primary work environment of this position is in the field, the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be on occasion required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to the following (lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain).

Office and field work as well as inclement weather conditions.
