JobSummary:
This position provides safety services and expertise forprojects on Transmission and Distribution Systems within the Electric UtilityIndustry. Experience working in and around electric utility substations is animportant aspect of this position and should be emphasized in replying to thisjob posting. This position implements and coordinates programs to reduce oreliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses. The abilityto influence others about the importance of safety by using your passion,knowledge and skills will be key to being successful in this position.
JobDuties and Responsibilities:
• Champion safety in the field by observing,coaching and taking action to avert safety related incidents
• Conduct field observations to assurecompliance of OSHA regulations and Utility Company Safety rules
• Conduct close call/good catch and ongoingaccident investigations
• Identify and address safety concerns andquality issues associated with the different parts of the project
• Conduct site and field visits in accordancewith each scope
• Participate in design constructability reviews
• Ensure that contractors are in compliance withUtility Company mandated safety training (Safety manual work procedures,Combination grounding-Transmission Lines, Substation De-Energized Work Plan)
• Conduct Pre Construction/Safety Kickoffmeetings to outline what is expected of contractors
• Conduct safety stand downs as applicableregularly and immediately after safety concerns or issues are observed
• Audit JSA/JHA's, daily and as tasks change onthe job
• Set safe work expectations according to OSHAand Utility Company regulations in accordance with governance processes
• Safety - Tailboard conferenceattendance/review, JSA development/review, observations/hazard analysis reviews
• Monitor skills and abilities of contractorsfor task, mental and physical state, public exposure, accident/incidentreporting
• Identifies and addresses all project safetyand environmental hazards and concerns
Qualifications(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• High School Diploma or the equivalent;
• Requires ten (10) years' experience in aSafety Specialist or similar role with a minimum of five (5) years' of thatexperience in the Electric Utility industry (Transmission or Distribution);
• Must be knowledgeable and be able to interpretand cite OSHA regulations and provide guidance to construction crews and uppermanagement on the proper application of these regulations in the workplace.
• COSS, CUSP-Certified Utility Safetycertification preferred;
• OSHA 500 certification preferred.
WorkingConditions:
• Work is primarily conducted at ProjectConstruction Sites within Utility Company service area (may require occasionaltravel to other services areas). Thismight include electric Substations, Transmission and Distribution lines.
• Interaction with other team members, as wellas supervisors and client personnel.
• Must be able to wear safety equipment asrequired by the safety department for personal protection.
• May be at more than one job site in a day andmust be able to tolerate climate changes.
Physical Requirements (With orwithout Reasonable Accommodation):
• Must be able to lift and carry twenty (20)pounds;
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing orother communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation,which permits employee to communicate effectively;
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of timewith or without reasonable accommodation;
• Sufficient vision or other powers ofobservation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employeeto conduct analysis and investigations;
