Part-Time Fire Protection Sub-Code Inspector
Summary:
Under direction of the Construction Official, the Part-Time Fire Protection Sub-Code Inspector has the responsibility for administering the Fire Protection sub-code of the State Uniform Construction Code and performs fire protection inspection work in construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications approved in accord with the State Uniform Construction Code is achieved; does other related duties as required.
Duties:
Reviews and approves plans of proposed structures as provided in state regulations for conformity with Fire Protection sub-codes; analyzes Fire Protection inspection problems and establishes appropriate work methods; has final responsibility in the inspection for Fire Protection sub-code compliance of new construction and renovation projects; collects and records permit and other fees, issues permits, and verifies that required prior approvals have been obtained; responsible for establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with architects, engineers, and construction supervisors; issues onsite warnings, citations, and stop-work orders in cases of serious violations of the Fire Protection sub-code that might endanger the health, safety, and/or welfare of the public or building occupants; prepares violations reports and recommendations regarding C.O.s; serves subpoenas and other legal process notices; testifies in court and in administrative hearings; prepares inspection reports; establishes inspection schedules.
Requirements:
Applicants must possess a valid license as a Fire Protection Inspector, (HHS) issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Fire Sub-Code Official license highly preferred. Experience in municipal inspection practices and computer literacy a must. (ICS)-level technical license will be considered. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver's License.
Salary: $35.70 per hour; part-time (not to exceed 28 hours per week).
