Our high-volume CDC (Central Distribution Center) will be the backbone of product movement within our 15-branch network, consolidating inventory replenishment, accelerating product flow, and driving operational efficiency. The top priority will be to ensure product moves accurately and efficiently out to and between the branches. The CDC will support high throughput, consistent product availability and reliable delivery, thereby reducing friction in the supply chain, and allowing our branches to provide outstanding customer service.
Position Overview:
The Dispatcher / Backup Class A CDL Driver is responsible for coordinating and supporting daily transportation operations for the Central Distribution Center. This position manages driver schedules, dispatch activities, route coordination, and communication to ensure timely and efficient deliveries. In addition, this role serves as a backup Class A CDL Driver when needed to cover driver absences, vacations, call-offs, or increased delivery demands.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, safety-focused, and experienced in both transportation logistics and commercial driving operations.
This is an overnight position. The schedule would be Sunday - Thursday 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Dispatch & Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate and dispatch drivers, tractors, trailers, and routes to support daily distribution operations.
- Monitor delivery schedules and provide real-time communication regarding delays, route changes, or operational issues.
- Maintain accurate dispatch logs, driver schedules, delivery records, and transportation documentation.
- Work closely with warehouse and shipping teams to ensure loads are prepared and dispatched on time.
- Utilize dispatch systems, GPS tracking, and transportation management software to monitor fleet movement and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company transportation and safety regulations.
- Assist with route planning and load optimization to improve service levels and reduce transportation costs.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules and communicate equipment concerns promptly.
- Respond professionally and efficiently to transportation issues, customer concerns, and emergency situations.
Backup Class A CDL Driver Responsibilities
- Coordinate and logs routes for overnight delivery trucks, with focus on delivery time commitments.
- Hands-on loading and unloading of product that is received into individual daily routes and secure loads.
- Move skids using a manual pallet jack, hand truck, and lift gate.
- Complete and maintain paperwork from the night's work including inter-branch transfers and truck logs.
- Provide information to Dispatcher throughout the night, such as delivery times and picture capture.
- Ensure truck cab and bed are emptied and cleaned daily at the end of every shift.
- Prepare and schedule maintenance on vehicles to determine needed repairs or inspections.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL license required.
- Current DOT medical card required.
- Clean driving record with the ability to meet company insurance requirements.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of transportation, dispatching, logistics, and Class A CDL driving experience required.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, fleet operations, routing, and transportation compliance.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced distribution environment.
- Experience with dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office preferred.
- Forklift certification or warehouse equipment experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles and warehouse equipment.
- Ability to work in warehouse, yard, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
