As a Product Sales Specialist, you are the heartbeat of our sales organization. You will leverage deep product expertise to solve complex customer challenges and drive revenue growth for your assigned lines. As a proactive collaborator, you’ll bridge the gap between technical requirements and customer requirements.
The right candidate will be equal parts technical expert and strategic closer. In this role, you’ll own the lifecycle of the sale, from uncovering a customer’s technical requirements to delivering the final recommendation. Working hand-in-hand with our entire sales team, you will act as the go-to authority for your product line, turning intricate questions into actionable growth strategies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the primary technical authority for Industrial Automation product lines, providing high-level consultations and product demonstrations via video calls.
- Solution Architecting: Translate complex customer challenges into actionable technical solutions, ensuring recommendations align with their operational goals.
- Content Creation: Develop and curate technical sales collateral and documentation to support new product launches and feature enhancements for your product lines.
- Drive Revenue Growth: Develop and execute strategic sales plans to meet or exceed annual targets and expand market share within assigned product categories.
- Own the Sales Cycle: Lead the end-to-end sales process, from initial discovery and technical requirement gathering to building comprehensive proposals and closing deals.
- Identify Market Opportunities: Proactively curate new business leads and cross-selling opportunities by staying ahead of industry trends and customer needs.
- Strategic Partnership: Act as the dedicated point of contact for a diverse portfolio of current and prospective leads and customers, fostering long-term trust through regular engagement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with our Technical Support team and the broader Sales Department to resolve high-level customer inquiries and ensure a "one-team" approach.
- CRM Excellence: Maintain meticulous records of customer interactions, sales pipelines, and market intelligence within the CRM to drive data-informed decision-making.
- Onsite Presence: Engage in daily onsite operations to foster team synergy (this role is not remote).
- Strategic Travel: Represent our company at select industry trade shows or client sites (approx. 1–2 times per year).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience) is desired.
- Industry Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in technical sales, application engineering, or a product specialist role within the industrial automation or electrical distribution industry.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with core automation technologies, such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Industrial PCs, Industrial Sensors, and SCADA solutions are ideal, but not required at time of hire. Candidates will be expected to learn the technical nuances of their product lines as quickly as possible.
- Sales Skills: Proven ability to manage a full sales cycle, including lead qualification, technical discovery, proposal building, and closing. Candidate must be detailed oriented, able to multi-task, and able to meet deadlines.
- Communication: Because the duties are primarily via email and phone conversations, the ideal candidate should have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both engineers and executive decision-makers.
- Tools: Proficiency with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Net Suite) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Logistics: Must be ability to travel occasionally (1–2 times per year) for trade shows or client site visits.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Work Environment:
This position is in a standard office environment with desktop business equipment and frequent telephone calls. Noise level is moderate. This is a full-time position with hours typically M-F.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time. The employee must be able to work in close contact with small and large groups. Frequent hearing and talking is required. The employee must constantly reach with hands and fingers. Extensive keyboard typing is required.
